Cutting Room Floor found the sound files, the leak is definitely legit. The funny thing is, it was only found in the 3DS data, not the Wii U data. Which probably means someone at the Smash team botched. Hard. |

I'm willing to bet he will still be a clone, in fact that's the only way I could ever see them adding Roy. Probably a lot like Dr Mario and Mewtwo, same moveset as Melee with just a slightly updated feel (and maybe a unique final smash if he's lucky). Lucina only got in because she was easy make and I feel like Roy would be in a similar boat. Veterans are a fairly safe bet for DLC, people will know exactly what to expect from them and they're all gonna have their subset of fans who missed them or people willing to take them back for nostalgia's sake. Roy would be one of the easier vets to make and actually still has a relatively decent fanbase among Smash players (if not Fire Emblem fans) unlike say the similar Pichu. The ballot apparently ends in October and Lucas comes in June, that leaves them a good few months to do something else, and they'd probably want to since it'd also take quite a while to make whoever they decided on from the ballot. I was expecting Wolf to fill that gap but it seems like there's a chance Roy and Ryu are doing it instead, might have just picked an easier vet to give them more time to work on a newcomer like Ryu. That said I still think there's no way in hell we're not getting Wolf, and still think he could show up before these two anyway. Bringing back Lucas and not Wolf would just be one of the most baffling things ever, and I say this as a huge fan of Mother 3. If these other characters do come first i dunno, maybe they're holding Wolf back to coincide with the release of the new starfox game or something? Also its worth noting, those 4 victory themes wee not the only things datamined, there was also some stage music. There were a couple of songs that were already in the game there in the patch again for some reason (Pac Maze and Unova Le age music I believe). A full version of Ryu's theme (presumably for a street fighter stage) as well as the Smash 64 Dreamland music and a song from Kirby Air Ride. With Smash 3ds being two songs a stage, seems like there could be a dlc Kirby stage on the horizon (though with that music I'd guess it' just be Dreamland 64) |

But the DLC roster is already 100% clones (and coincidentally psychics). |

Lucario continues to not be a clone of Mewtwo, despite sharing one move. |

Didn't you know; Mewtwo, Lucario and Wii Fit Trainer were just Samus clones all along. |

And her being a clone is a real shame that I really don't understand because in Awakening, she has her own set of moves. Looking at the wikia, *her neutral B could have been Dual Strike (one charged hit that triggers a second one if the first move connects), *her down B could have been Sol (she hops back then dashes, doing a piercing stab that also restores a little bit of life), *the up B would then be Luna (an air slash that goes through targets no matter what, since it's a "negates defense" kind of move. Bonus points if it looks like the one she and Chrom perform in the Ferox Arena cutscene) *and the side B could be Galeforce? (an attack where Lucina rushes to a selected direction after a successful hit, symbolizing the "gotta rush to a second target" feel) I mean, it was pretty easy to find moves that'd work for her. |

Think for a moment why Mewtwo's name ends with TWO. |

Her being a clone has nothing to do with how hard it would be make a unique moveset for her, you could just as easily make a unique moveset for Chrom (the big dumb jump slashes from the cutscene you mentioned, Aegis using the Fire Emblem on his shoulder as a reflector instead of a counter, bring out a spear for some sort of projectile since great lords are sword and spear in awakening) but they still felt he'd be filling a similar sort of role to Ike and went for the even more unique Robin. Lucina wasn't planned as a character in the first place, she was just going to be a Marth skin like Alph is to Olimar. Late in the development cycle once they were past the point of adding new characters they upgraded a few of those skins to characters to pad out the roster since they could make them clones with next to no effort. Same reason we have Dark Pit, who's holding a unique weapon you could have easily built a moveset around in his official art but only actually uses it for his Final Smash. Dr Mario is a bit harder to place, the code and character select positions do lump him in with Lucina and Dark Pit so it seems like he's was also an upgraded costume, but there were also plans for a scrapped stage to go with him. I get the feeling maybe they decided to change Doc to a separate character first to make him more like Melee Mario than Smash 4 Mario and then later on down the line thought we don't we give some of the other skins we have the same treatment. My only real complaint is why didn't we get Alph as his own character before Lucina or Dark Pit. I've never played Pikmin but Olimar is actually a complex enough character he could benefit from a more beginner friendly version like the idea with Lucina is, just make Alph the same but give him only rock pikmin which have like the averaged stats of all 5 of Olimar's Pikmin. As much as I liked Lucina in Awakening I'd rather have an Olimar where I don't have to worry about Pikmin ordering than a Marth where I don't have to worry about the sword tip (and especially more than a Pit with like two different moves) |

Oh yeah, that wasn't my point, sorry about the confusion. My point is that she should have been unique and it's a bit of a waste that she isn't. And Pit should've kept his perfectly fine Brawl moveset while Dark Pit gets to use the new one. Just my opinion, but I'd rather have less characters, than double the characters with half of them feeling almost exactly like the other half. Even though we can't really talk about clones, since they are different and so the word doesn't really apply. Now it's only a minor issue and that won't stop me from having fun. -------------- Btw, are we still doing that VGCW community smash tourney thing? Edited by Blauze, Apr 20 2015, 02:04 PM.

Hopefully. Seeing as they gave us not hint to when the tournament mode is appearing, we might want to just trade codes or NNIDs to just do a mini tournament while we wait. |
