The Linear VGCW Champion; A thought exercise.

Based off this article.

Non-title matches are an interesting thing. On one hand, it lets the champion show their stuff. On the other hand, it's usually used in the actual WWE to have the champ eat a fall and set up the next PPV match.

Now, what if the title could only change hands in 1v1 matches, but was always up for defense every time a wrestler stepped into the ring?

Here are the rules.

1. The linear title can only change hands through a one on one match.
2. The title can not be lost by countout or DQ, as normal rules.
3. The title can be lost via pinfall, submission, or KO. (Last Man Standing/Tables, etc. All count.)
4. Unsanctioned Backstage Brawls do not count.

So let's go through things. I'm only going to go through what's archived. So, sorry, Gabe, Hulk, Pyro and Satan. You guys are screwed over.

1. Dr. Eggman (11/19/12-11/20/12)
Defeated Mr. Satan to win first VGCW championship and take the linear title.

2. Ganondorf (11/20/12-12/5/12)
Defeated Eggman in a VGCW championship match, then defended it through the 1000 years of darkness. Through linear rules, he did not lose the belt to AVGN, but still squashed him to retain it.

3. Bowser (12/5/12-6/2/13)
Defeated Ganondorf in the infamous 32-5 match. Again, through linear rules, the Gerudo Curse never happened, and Bowser would defend the belt a few times until his long absence and surprise return at Endgame 4

4. Shinya Arino (6/2/13-10/8/13)
Defeated Bowser in an extreme rules match at Endgame 4.

5. Wario (10/8/13-1/14/14)
Defeated Arino to take his Dragon Ball and the Linear Title

6. Kefka Palozzo (1/14/14-1/28/14)
Defeated Wario despite interference from Waluigi.

7. Waluigi (1/28/14-5/13/14)
In a touch of irony, defeated Kefka with interference from Wario. Would be confined to multi-man matches for quite some time until retaking the casual belt, making the Casual Champion also the holder of the Linear VGCW title.

8. Grey Fox (5/13/14-5/27/14)
Defeated Waluigi at Endgame 7 to become new Casual Champion and take the Linear Belt

9. Captain Falcon (5/27/14-6/10/14)
Defeated Gray Fox to take the Casual Belt and Linear Championship.

10. Sonic the Hedgehog (6/10/14-???)
Defeated Captain Falcon, separating the Casual Belt and Linear Championship.

...Huh. A lot less turnover than the actual hot potato of a belt. I'll be doing some more experiments with bending the rules a bit to see what happens. But for now, Sonic could actually re-unify the Linear Title with the official VGCW Championship if he can avoid losing in singles competition till he finally cashes that damn briefcase in.

More sizzle than a rasher of bacon.
Funny, I was actually working on making this same thread, but I had my own set of rules:

1. Any sanctioned match is eligible for the title (doesn't have to be one-on-one), Rumbles and brawls don't count
2. Title only changes hands when the champion takes a fall (if someone else is pinned in a multi-man or tag match, the champion retains). Fall can be pin, submission, I Quit, DQ, first blood, or KO. Over-the-top is not allowed since multiple people can cause this to happen.
3. The title can be stripped if the champion is forcibly not able to compete (suspension, for example). The first match following the stripping becomes the next Linear Championship match.

So here's the history with this ruleset:

1. Mr. Satan (11/19/12-11/19/12) (1)
First VGCW show effectively recorded, Mr. Satan was VGCW Champion entering the show so he is
the first Linear champion.
- 0 successful defenses
- Extreme Rules Falls Count Anywhere vs. Dr. Eggman (11/19/12) (LOST)

2. Dr. Eggman (11/19/12-11/20/12) (1)

3. Ganondorf (11/20/12-12/05/12) (1)
After winning the Rumble just prior, Ganondorf takes the VGCW and linear titles in an Extreme Rules singles match. He loses the VGCW title when AVGN pins Sonic but retains the Linear Title. He defends again as he reclaims the VGCW Championship in a singles match with AVGN after winning another Rumble.
- 7 successful defenses
- Triple Threat Extreme Rules vs. AVGN and Sonic (did not factor into decision) (11/20/12)
- Hell in a Cell vs. AVGN (11/21/12)
- Hell in a Cell vs. Scorpion (11/21/12)

- 0 successful defenses
- Triple Threat vs. Link and Adam Jensen (12/09/12) (LOST)

5. Adam Jensen (12/09/12-12/12/12) (1)
After pinning Bowser in a Triple Threat, Jensen gets both titles, but the Gerudo curse keeps him from holding them for long.
- 0 successful defenses
- Singles vs. Kratos (12/12/12) (LOST)

6. Kratos (12/12/12-12/12/12) (1)

13. Charles Barkley (02/28/13-02/28/13) (1)
Not only does Nappa fail to win the VGCW Championship with his MitB cash-in, he loses the Linear Title as well, combining the titles once more. But as he undergoes the gauntlet of three matches in a single night, Barkley loses them both.
- 0 successful defenses
- Singles vs. Donkey Kong (02/28/13) (LOST)

14. Donkey Kong (02/28/13-03/07/13) (2)
The first to hold the Linear Championship multiple times. But his victory is mired in controversy as he is suspended for the use of the Glitch Bomb. He is stripped of the VGCW Championship. The Linear Championship cannot be hold by a wrestler who cannot compete, so the next singles match decides the new Linear Champion.

18. Red (03/19/13-05/23/13) (1)

After dishonorably losing a Dragon Ball to Wario, Segata challenges Wario to a proper match. Wario accepts, and while the Casual Title isn't on the line, the Linear Title certainly is, and Wario claims the championship as a result.

- Vacated as he returns to prison (12/24/13)

26. Charles Barkley (01/07/13-02/11/14) (2)

30. Billy Lee (04/22/14-Current) (1)
Billy Lee makes Waluigi tap out to a sleeper hold in the Tag Team Contenders Tournament. They defeat the Mystical Ninjas to help Billy retain. Jimmy takes the fall in the finals so Billy still keeps the Linear Title.
- 4 successful defenses
- Tag Team vs. Mystical Ninjas (Goemon and Ebisumaru) (04/22/14)
- Tag Team vs. The Saiyans (Vegeta and Nappa) (04/22/14) (Not involved in decision)
- Tag Team vs. Disciplinary Committee (Seifer and Raijin) (05/13/14)
- Tag Team vs. The DK Crew (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) (05/27/14) (Not involved in decision)

Fun facts with these rules:
- Only two wrestlers have 4 or more successful defenses: Ganondorf and Billy Lee.
- 18 of the 30 champions lost the Linear Title in their first defense
- The belt has changed hands multiple times in the same match twice, both were Casual Title Contenders elimination matches
- Come on, Baz McMahon as Linear Champion? That's a fun fact in itself.

Or, Scorpion just beat him like such a boss that the game decided to physically manifest the linear championship when he re-unified them tonight! :D :VGCWBelt: :scorp: :VGCWBelt:

Do ladder and I Quit matches count for this? (Using PlasticAutomaton's system)
Because if they don't I think Ganon is the linear Casual Champion, which is hilarious. If they do it's DK, which is only mildly less hilarious.

I was thinking about this recently and decided to work out who the linear champion was now. It's Nappa if ladder matches count, if not it's Barret Wallace. So there we go.

Yo, it's me. It's me. It's A.T.B.
So I had some time on my hands, and decided to continue where it was left off, and find who the current VGCW Linear Champion is, as according to the rules set by PlasticAutomaton. (I tried also following TOH's rules, but I hit a road block where Jimmy Lee was champ, Dragons lost a tag match to Barret and Flint, and the vid is blocked on YouTube and so I can't see who took the pin.)

10. Sonic the Hedgehog (6/10/14-6/17/14)
Defeated Captain Falcon, separating the Casual Belt and Linear Championship.

11. Scorpion (6/17/14-11/04/14)
Defeated Sonic on Money In The Bank Cash In. Unified Linear Championship and VGCW Championship.

12. Phoenix Wright(11/04/14-12/23/14)
Defeated Scorpion in Non-Title Extreme Rules Match. Separated Linear Championship and VGCW Championship.

13. Duke Nukem(12/23/14-01/13/15)
Defeated Pheonix Wright in Great Tournament 2 Quarter Finals.

14. Nappa(01/13/15-09/15/15)
Defeated Duke Nukem in Ladder Match. Would eventually re-unify Linear and VGCW Championships. Would eventually separate Linear Championship and VGCW Championship by losing Triple Threat Match to Guile and Ebisumaru, however did not lose Linear title due to it not being 1 v 1.

15. Duke Nukem(09/15/15-10/20/15)
Defeated Nappa in Singles Match. Nappa's first Singles loss since 2013 that I could find.

16. Dracula(10/20/15-8/2/16)
Defeated Duke Nukem in Singles (Floor is Lava) Match. Would Eventually re-unify VGCW and Linear Championships.

17. Phoenix Wright(8/2/16-11/25/16)
Defeated Dracula for VGCW and Linear Title at End Game X2. Lost it to Vegeta in a VGCW Title Defense.

18. The Badking, Vegeta (11/25/16-11/25/16)
Won the title in a VGCW Championship Match against Phoenix. Lost it shortly after that same night when Ganondorf cashed in his MiTB Briefcase.

19. Ganondorf (11/25/16-Present)
Cashed in Money in the Bank contract to win the VGCW and by extension Linear title from Vegeta shortly after Vegeta wins the title. Would unify Crazy Title with Normal Title against Adam Jensen.

I was gonna go crazy, and do multiple timelines for every combination of thing happening in the tag match, but I don't have the time for that.

32. Jimmy Lee (9/16/14-8/3/15)
-Won title by pinning Mike Haggar in tag match
-Lost title in 1 on 1 match to ToeJam

33. ToeJam (8/4/15-10/20/15)
-Won title in 1 on 1 match against Jimmy Lee
-Lost title by taking fall in tag match against Salvation Ops

34. Solid Snake(10/20/15-2/2/16)
-Won title by pinning ToeJam in tag match
-Lost title in 1 on 1 match against Nappa

35. Nappa(2/2/16-3/22/16)
-Won title by defeating Snake in 1 on 1 match
-Lost title by losing to Adam Jensen in 1 on 1 match

36. Adam Jensen (3/22/16-1/17/2017)
-Won title by beating Nappa in 1 on 1 match
-Lost title to Ganondorf in 1 on 1 Title Unification and VGCW Title Match

37. Ganondorf (1/17/2017-Present)
-Won title against Adam Jensen in VGCW Title Match. Unified Crazy and Normal Route Titles.
