With the year more or less over I thought it would be a great opportunity for everyone to share their favorite games of the year. Only rule i'll put in place is they have to have been released this year so if you want to include remakes are remasters you can. Honorable Mentions My top 5 5. infamous Second Son/ First Light - Always been a sucker for open world superhero games, the game might not have been perfect but I has hooked from start to finish with both. 4. Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton - This game was a long time coming and it didn't disappoint me, not the best Ace attorney game and not the best Layton game but just something about both of them coming together hooked me from start to finish 3. Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS - It's smash... don't need to explain 2. Mario Kart 8 - It's Mario Kart... see the smash explanation 1. Danganronpa 1&2 - These games are fantastic, I heard some good things about the 1st game and decided why not as I fancied a new vita game and well it didn't disappoint. Both have a fantastic story backed up with a great cast of characters, although the game play seems like a simplified version of the Ace Attorney games in the trials, I couldn't put either of them down. If you own a Vita you owe it to yourself to at least try these games I mean people do keep joking how the Vita has no games! |

5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Having terrible swimming mechanics is honestly the only thing keeping this game from being #1. Seriously, it is, without a doubt, the BEST Donkey Kong Country game ever made... except for the water levels. Goddamn was the ball dropped there. And when everything else is just SO GOOD, too. Seriously it is great to play a Returns game with a tolerable control scheme. 4. CAPTAIN MOTHERFUCKING TOAD Puzzle games are great. Captain Toad is slowly redeeming the Toad species for not ever being interesting except in SMRPG and being the economy choice partner in Duel Mode of Mario Party 3. This is like the Adventures of Lolo sequel I always wanted but never realized I wanted so badly. 3. The Wolf Among Us Being the best Telltale game, as well as being the only Telltale game that didn't have a point that made me go 'nope I'm not enjoying this anymore' does damn good. It will never have the same connection with people that The Walking Dead had, but it doesn't try to; it's a great noir game. And hey, it could be worse! It could be TWD Season 2! 2. Smash Bros 4 I have a little statue of Little Mac on my desk. He encourages me to keep trying. I tried not to love this game, I wanted to be done with it in five days like I was with Brawl and then get really good at a character no one likes (DK) so I can win money off of local tournaments from people who don't know shit about anything and yet still complain about the game. But dammit, it's SO GOOD and I'm NOT VERY GOOD at it and I feel that same excitement I felt with Melee and the first three hours of Brawl. 1. Super Persona Circlejerk RPG It's rare when a company goes 'oh look at you, you big fanboy. Here is literally everything you want. Also check out Etrian Odyssey it's really good'. It's the worst kind of pandering, explicitly for Persona fans and absolutely no one else with a point of entry at 'you must have beaten and LOVED P3 and P4. Or at least one of them and tolerate the other one'. But it's better-made than most SMT games and is tiding me over until the DS2 remake and it exists to make me enjoy this stuff I'm already balls-deep into. It's like a drug, a weird, horrendously Japanese drug that I just keep injecting into my bloodstream to put a smile on my face. honorable mentions to those games I never played but should have like bayo 2, d4, and shovel knight. actual honorable mention to shantae 3 for being good. and dangan ronpa for being great but I played the ios version like a true weeb before the us release and don't have a vita. and jojo's for actually being localized. 5. Kirby Triple Deluxe - Easily the best game in the entire Kirby series. 4. Dragon Age: Inquisition - Bi-Bull is my husbando. 3. Super Smash Bros 4 (WiiU) - This one was going to show up. Added a lot of great new features. Improved upon all of Brawl's and Melee's mechanics and flaws (speed, physics, tripping, ledge guarding) and even improved the online stability to the point where most matches are actually playable. Bonus points for being the first game in the series to use a normally designed controller. 2. Shovel Knight - An extremely carefully constructed love letter to the NES era of gaming. Great in that it actually emulates the good parts of games from that era rather than apply retro graphics to their art project like a lot of these games tend to do lately. 1. |
