Reviving this since Fallout 4 has come out, but it seems like a good place to exchange our character creations. Here's mine:

Fallout 3 was a game I started, played for something like 20 hours, and never got around to finishing it. I didn't start up Skyrim, so I don't have fatigue on the gameplay style, meaning I'm looking forward to whenever I get around to Fallout 4. Seems like a great game to kind of let yourself get lost in.

I just have NO time to play it now when I have other games I should probably get to/finish first.

Fallout 3 is baaaaaaaaaaaaad.

BRYN, look into picking up New Vegas. It's the most immersive game in the series.

I have to disagree with this statement 100%.

Fallout 4 is a really good game at its core, it's still has the usual bugs all Bethesda suffer from. So far I've played around 50 hours worth and I still feel I've only seen half of the content this game has to offer.

Id place the game somewhere between 3 and New Vegas, its better than 3 in pretty much every way, but the writings not on par with New Vegas. I just hope we get Obsidian doing another spin-off game from 4's engine as that would be fantastic.

It's a strong contender for my game of the year, with the other contenders being Bloodborne(Will most likely be my GOTY) and Xenoblade X (Not out yet but I know it will be up there)

It also has incredibly boring questing and terrible dialog. It's an ocean-wide puddle.

Since the last check-in on this thread I've moved on from the series generally speaking, which is a bit sad because I rank Fallout 1 among my favorite games and is one I spent a lot of time with as a kid.

I still find the "immersion" of the modern Bethesda games to be very surface-level and frankly, weak and boring. But it's clear the games are not made for me anymore and that's fine as Wasteland 2 fills that niche nicely (strategy-focused gameplay, attention to detail, strong writing and sense of place, etc.)

Guile did nothing wrong
This game has a whole mess of problems but holy shit the dialogue wheel in particular was a mistake. I'm actually wanting to do yet another play through of New Vegas now

I'm not really going to these games for an immersive experience. The story is a alright framework, but from what the openly critical have to say it isn't the best. I kind of just want something to wander around in and maybe stumble upon a vibrating skeleton and laugh.

I see the bugs (that aren't game breaking, mind you) as dumb fun. They've persisted in these Bethasda games for so long that they're practically a part of the experience, for better or worse. It's something that comes with the type of game they're making where only restricting player action, or a large amount of time & money can solve.

By the time I actually get to the game, there will likely be ample mods for me to craft the experience I want. Such as that mode that changes the dialog to what you're actually going to say (I hate when games do this).

Long story short, I'm not to invested in the franchise to be super critical about it.

I know this isn't the Bloodborne thread but holy shit Bloodborne is so depressing and NOT something I want to invest 100+ hours in. Dark Souls in general was depressing but there was always those items/enemies that were just hilarious to use/see. Bloodborne is 100% depressing victorian era with nothing but creepy enemies. In short it's hard to have fun in Bloodborne (I guess that means the ambiance is fantastic, but it's a mood killer for me).

On the 'Fallout 4 being bad' topic: I platinum'd Fallout 3, and need two more trophies in New Vegas. I'm really invested into both of the games, and will continue to play them even though Fallout 4 is out. I personally miss the stat system, and the level caps (though getting 5 levels per DLC was stupid). I want 100 in Energy and 14 in Explosives, but everything is equal in this game, and you just get boosts in stats, which is BOOOOOOORING. I also wish there was an option to turn off voice acting because in some cases it just fucks up the role-playing aspect big time for me. The entire armor set up they're running is also jank as hell.
On the good side of things I like the improvement in enemy NPC dialogue, and the quests are still goofy. Legendary weapons and gear are a great addition to the game, and while I'm not too big of a fan of it, the settlement building has a lot of potential. Character creation, as I have already pointed out, is fan-freaking-tastic in this game, and your character feels unique in appearance, but not much else.
