It really depends on the lyrics in question. Like, if we had Live and Learn/Open your Heart/What I'm Made Of/Knight of the Wind for a regular ass match for Eggman/Knuckles/Sonic, it would be a huge waste. Burning Rangers on the other hand is something you can use constantly and it would be perfectly fine. Same with MGR music.

But I do agree on "LYRICS FOR END GAME ONLY" being absolutely stupid.

I love tracks with lyrics but I think some songs need to be used for special occasions. Armstrong/Illidan, to me, felt a lot more electric because we waited an entire season for vocal MGR tracks to be played and it became so much more grandiose for it. I don't think I'd have thought those songs would have had as much of an impact if I heard them in every single MGS-related match.

But god damn it I still want to hear BURNING RANGERS FLY HIIIIIIIIIIIIGH every night.
This guy gets it!

Yeah, maybe some songs should only be used for special occasions while others are fine as regular music.
But playing a lyrics-less version of something as hype as Rules of Nature? Nah I'm sorry but that's a travesty as far as I'm concerned. It's just a dumb bait that will only disappoint people, if you don't wanna play Rules of Nature for that match then don't play it period instead of teasing the chat.
Just my two cents.

Yeah, I don't like the lyrics-less teases either. For me, it's either vocal version or nothing and I'll take "nothing" meaning I'll take another song in its place.

More sizzle than a rasher of bacon.
I can understand saving some things for big events, but I don't want to take it too far. Otherwise I feel I'm gimping my own playlist for regular episodes, and that feels wrong to me. I'm trying to impress during the whole season, not just at End Game or a mid-season PPV. That said, it's not a one-size-fits-all kind of situation. It's going to vary based on the song, based on the situation, based on those involved.

As far as this last show goes, it was my first episode. That was special occasion enough to me. I only get one first impression, so I went all out, and I feel it paid off. No regrets.

thank you big match jon
I suppose you could consider the first episode of a new era a special occasion, I mean, if you must.

I agree that one of the highlights of the EGX match was the lyrics, but that's something mostly unique to MGR. I don't think many games have like, 12 songs each with lyric and non-lyric version. So this seems like a non-issue.

You people don't deserve lyrics.

We're getting non-vocals "Airman ga Taosenai" and "It has to be this way" for the rest of TOH's run and you have no one to blame but yourselves. Hell, let's find a non-vocal "Use Your Might" just to screw with you all.

I think some lyrical songs would be better off saved for main events, title matches, and PPVs. However, that doesn't mean I want instrumental versions on "normal" nights.

There are a few cases that can be a bit tricky though, like with Mortal Kombat. All the best tracks from that series come from the movie album, and almost all of them happen to include lyrics. In that case, just play the tracks whenever you can. Also, staples like "Burning Rangers" and "Rolling Start" would be great on any night.

But yeah, I used to be in the boat that "all lyrics, all the time" is the way to go but after seeing how effective it was in turning Armstrong/Illidan II into a huge deal I've kinda done a 180 on that. Big songs should be saved for big moments, which is a pretty basic way of looking at it but dunno how else to word it.

Not a fan of instrumental teases though. "I know you want to sing along to A Stranger I Remain so HERE'S SOMETHING WORSE!"

It depends on the song, the characters, and the situation. Rolling Start and Burning Rangers are fun to bring out whenever, but shit like Live and Learn should be saved. I'm usually fine with lyrics whenever, but for the sake of "saving" them, I'd be fine with them being used in standard main events, as well as during any PPV or "mini-PPV" match. That being said, don't substitute instrumental versions. If you're going to play the song, play the song, dammit.

In the case of MGR music in particular, I think whenever Armstrong wrestles outside a main event/PPV one lyrical MGR song should play, and that should be the limit. That way you get MGR music in without having to play a whole bunch of songs and "ruining" how special and hype they can be.

It depends on who's fighting, too. For instance, Armstrong is going to have more lyrical songs than Break Man, so it's going to be more prevalent to hear Metal Gear Rising music. So, to put it in perspective, you wouldn't want to "waste" a song for a wrestler with few songs on a standard main event, whereas you have much more room with Armstrong because the Rising soundtrack has so many good songs.
