Match of the Nights can be decided for bad reasons just as much good ones, I don't think that means Ebi is objectively better than Goemon in match quality.

Match of the Nights can be decided for bad reasons just as much good ones, I don't think that means Ebi is objectively better than Goemon in match quality. MOTN's are decided on a number of things not just match quality. Match quality, story telling, musical syncs, who is competing and memorable moments are all a part of what makes people choose thier match of the night.
Haggar/Goemon was the best in terms of match quality but Arino/Knuckles was also a great match that had a memorable moment (Catch continue, RKO through the table), musical sync (Drowning theme), good competitors (Arino is hugely popular and Knuckles was on a career resurgence), and story telling (Knuckles storyline with Dan, Arinos quest for a singles belt.) That's why it won MOTN.
There's no bad reasons to decide a MOTN. Entertainment in entertainment.

Judging a Wrestler by how many MOTNs they have is like judging their singles careers on whether they have a tag title or not. It takes two to tango. And a lot of the time, there's more than one good match per night. Bison could have put on every single excellent match he's ever done and still have 0 MOTNs if something incredible was on the same night. Goemon is a much better wrestler than Ebisumaru, and I think most people will agree with that statement. Goemon didn't have the luxury of working with Bison and Heavy or Bowser like Ebi did. Either way the Mystical Ninja games are excellent and everyone should play them and seeing them being dissed makes me upset.

The trek through the midcard continues, with a bunch of people I would never expect to be here for varying reasons. Also someone fix Dante's wiki, it's missing a match and I'm lazy.
25: Toad From the Mushroom Kingdom, the best at everything he does... TOAD!
In-Ring: Beat Wily, Beat Zangief, Lost to Donkey Kong, Lost to Team Hoss
In-Plot: Feud with Zangief, being the best
I can't believe Toad is not only a face, but the face of the New Generation. What world are we living in? Well, a world where heel Gief exists and Toad managed to get in the position of being the first CAW to make him eat shit repeatedly. Between that and his fantastic boasting, Toad's put himself into a very solid position, and become a fan favorite. Kinda shocking considering his initial reaction had everyone wanting him dead on sight. Who knows what's in store for THE BEST in season 11, but I'm sure it'll be amazing.
Trending: Up
24: Solid Snake From Shadow Moses Island, SOLID SNAKE!
In-Ring: Eliminated second in a #1 Contenders triple threat, Lost to Dante, Eliminated third in challenge tower preview fatal four way, lost to Scorpion, lost to Kanji, lost to Funk Arcana
In-Plot: Joined Duke against the new generation, motivated Jensen to fight the Nightmare
After Season 9's Illidan feud propelled Snake into the upper tier, Season 10 has basically kicked Snake out of the main event scene for the foreseeable future. Sure, Snake's never really looked bad in any of his losses, and sure, he's come close, but that doesn't change the fact that he could never get the job done. The sympathy for Grey Fox, and his match against Scorpion have bought Snake another season, but he can't keep coasting along on Frank's corpse for much longer. It's been 8 seasons since Snake has actually accomplished anything of note, and a potential tag team with Jensen is just sacrificing Jensen's last chance to forge his own identity to boost Snake's career. He needs to do SOMETHING, or it's time for this old soldier's war to end.
Trending: Down]
23: Dante From Limbo, Representing the Fuckheads... DANTE!
In-Ring: Beat Phoenix Wright, won a Fatal-Four Way, beat Snake, won the Challenge Tower Preview Fatal Four Way, lost to Scorpion for the VGCW championship, lost a triple threat, lost to Travis
In-Plot: Attempted to drive off the competition and frame Travis for it.
Dante came into this season swinging, easily erasing his loss at Endgame 9 with some massive victories, forcing his way into the title scene, and proving himself the best of the four challenge tower participants rather decisively. Unfortunately for Dante, the same thing happened to him that has happened to so many other people with momentum: Scorpion. Yes, there is no shame in losing to Scorpion, I know. But Dante went from the biggest heel in the company, the unbeatable smug fuckhead, to just another guy that talked big and lost to Scorpion.
His season only got worse from there. He lost his shot at immediate redemption in the royal rumble to the comic relief. He got eliminated first in another match that involved Zubaz. And his plans to frame Travis and take out the competition backfired horribly and got Travis his long awaited revenge. Ouch. Dante's best hope right now is that him and Travis can get on the same page quickly to avoid the many, many failures that the Fuckheads had in EDBW.
Trending: Down
22: Flint From Tazmily Village, representing the Middle Aged Outlaws... FLINT!
In-Ring: Beat Professor Layton, Lost to TJ&E, Failed to win the Casual Ladder match, lost to S&K, Eliminated last in the casual #1 contender's match, Beat the Mavericks
In-Plot: None
Flint started his season by absolutely crushing a newcomer (and somehow getting no MOVE OVER NEW STARS for it) and then went on a string of failures, up until a massive upset to end the season. You know, I'm increasingly convinced that Flint and Barret are only a tag team so Barret can make Flint look good with his incompetence. Once again, Barret ate all the pins, while Flint had to solo the matches he was in.
Flint is always tricky to evaluate, as he's basically in an eternal state of riding his season 5 "Flint the Godslayer" rep and not really doing much other than existing. Sure, he nearly won the #1 contenders match, but the real story of that match was Groose going absolutely ham. Meanwhile the tag division... yeah, it's basically Flint looking amazing and Barret looking like a fuck-up. I just don't really know what to say about Flint, other than that he needs to do something in Season 11 to justify his spot on the roster other than Bazza really loving Mother. I mean, at least he's far away from his old losing streak now. That's something.
Trending: Singles: Inconclusive / Tags: Inconclusive
21: Dan Hibiki From Hong Kong, China, representing the PRATS, the master of the Saikyo Style... DAN HIBIKI!
In-Ring: Lost casual championship to Arino, beat the robots, beat Bison, beat Sabin, lost to Guile and Kanji w/Sabin, put through a table by Sabin to fail to win the VGCW Championship
In-Plot: WHATIF Machine, teaching the Dragons, fighting the Nightmare
Another strong season for Dan, as he continues to be the surprise hero of VGCW. I mean really, I don't need to say much about him. He's been one of the stars of the show since he teamed up with the Dragons, he had a touching reunion with Satan, and proved himself to be a surprisingly noble hero. He bounced back from his title loss to start getting big wins back together, only to fall on his face at the last minute. But that big failure threw him right back into the midcard from the top of the charts. However, it's Dan. His students are champions, he's pinned the current champ already this season, and he's got the crowd firmly behind him as he looks to win that triple crown.
Trending: Up
Okay, so I put Dan as Up despite falling significantly at the end, but really, with all his plot and momentum, that's one loss that will not faze him.

Dan took down the Champion in a one-on-one fight. He's already capable of jumping straight back into the title scene while Sabin is champion.
Dante has lost three times out of seven matches, and has never looked weak in any of them. He made a far stronger effort against Scorpion than most people did barring Duke, Drac and Snake, his loss in the Triple Threat was due to it being an incredibly weapons heavy Extreme Rules match, and his loss to Travis was really close as well. I don't think he's trending down at all, considering more people will be excited to see Dante now they know he isn't just going to streamroll every single wrestler he comes across like he has for most of his career so far.
He's just...you know, gonna steamroll MOST of them. Cause Fuck Them.

I was a little surprised to see Snake was Trending Down, but I guess if it's based off W/L then it makes sense. Personally I think Snake has been the hottest he's ever been in his career, ever since the matches with Illidan he's switched from 'member of the old guard' to 'featured a lot because he's putting on some really good performances and people love getting behind him.' I guess the mini-feud with Kanji cooled him off a bit, but that was just putting over a new star and he still seems like he's kept his reputation as one of the stronger guys on the card
Flint VS Groose for the casual title is a match I'd really like to see too

Toad was THE BEST last season. According to my calculations it seems this parameter had not changed and he is still indeed THE BEST.
Snake is the pre-champ Sami Zayn of VGCW, continuously puts on incredible performances but just can't win the big one. He has the crowd in his hand now more than ever, his match with Scorps shows he clearly has the potential, he has to shake off his losses and start climbing that ladder once again.
Dante's taken a downfall but to be fair it's not going to be easy to keep up with his almost flawless previous season, a close loss to champion Scorpion and Travis doesn't hurt his credibility much, while it's generally accepted triple threats aren't exactly consistent. He's still very much a threat but for now his main focus is likely to be on the tag division rather than singles.
Flint didn't do too much last season, however he has continued his penchant of being a solid wrestler that seemingly has the ability to tap into beast mode at any moment.
Dan managed to raise his stake a lot last season, his match against Arino is a MOTY contender, he got revenge on Bison for his Great Tournament loss by reversing Bison's roll up, beat Sabin opwho is the current champion in a one on one match fairly convincingly. Dan only really faltered at the very end losing the impromptu tag match and getting speared through a table in the championship match by Sabin neither of which hurt Dan's credibility but the latter did cause his position to drop a lot. If Dan can shake off his losses and continue his strong singles performances he should be able to get back in the main picture again in no time, with the Dragons being champions hopefully he'll be able to join them at the top too with the ever elusive triple crown.

And that's why Dante is trending down at the moment. He's not the unstoppable juggernaut he looked like during the first half. He's... human again.
Snake is just weird in the fact that no one ever expects him to actually win anything. It's almost like Waluigi in that it's just what Snake does.

Almost out of the midcard, now.
20: Duke Nukem From Las Vegas, Nevada... DUKE NUKEM!
In-Ring: Beat Travis, Lost to Air Man, Lost to Funk Arcana
In-Plot: Pissed off at Kanji
Well, Duke being the fuddly old grandpa who hates those kids on his lawn is better than nothing, I suppose. I mean, at least you existed somewhat this season. Duke apparently became friends with Snake somehow, and then did the job to put the new stars over. There's really not much to say about someone who barely showed up, except to say that it's been 10 seasons, and Duke's still accomplished jack and shit, and that is just impressive.
Trending: Down
19: Gary Oak From Pallet Town, representing the Corporation, The General Manager of VGCW... GARY OAK!
In-Ring: Beat Bowser, Lost to Barret, Eliminated first in a fatal four-way, Lost to Scorpion for the title, eliminated second in a triple threat.
In-Plot: Running the company, sending Armstrong after Illidan
I still can't get over Gary not being at the bottom of this list. But, things have been good for Gary, at least outside of the ring. He runs the company, his new enforcer has dealt with the large purple problem, and he got to dick over Red, while installing a fun new toy in his office. Inside the ring, though... Yeesh. How do you go from beating Bowser to losing to Barret? I don't get it. And then to make matters worse... Scorpion happened, and there went the last of Gary's momentum after Barret and Dante had chipped away at it. At least we don't have the risk of another GM being the champ situation.
Trending: Down
18: Ebisumaru From Japan, representing the Mystical Ninjas... Ebisumaru!
In-Ring: Eliminated third in a fatal four-way, eliminated third in a six-man match, lost to S&K, failed to win the VGCW championship in a triple threat, eliminated first in a triple threat.
In-Plot: One Pre-title match scene
Ebisu had a lot of matches booked this season, and lost all of the even, though he's at least managed to look good in most of them. But looking good isn't enough, especially when you're shoving your tag team partner into the darkness. But still, I suppose he's in a better spot over a lot of the other frequent losers this season...
Trending: Singles: Down / Tags: Down
17: Shinya Arino From Osaka... Chief Arino!
In-Ring: Won a Fatal Four Way, Beat Knuckles in a #1 Casual Contenders, won the Casual Championship off Dan, lost the casual championship in a ladder match, lost to Haggar
In-Plot: Feud with Dan
It's been a pretty good season for Arino, well, the first half any. He won a massive upset to get himself towards the casual championship, secured the title shot with the greatest sync ending ever, and then dethroned the casual god to win his first singles title. ...And then he didn't even get a chance to properly defend it, and vanished after challenge tower, only showing up to put Haggar over in a fantastic match. Still, though Arino's on the downswing now, he's gotten a lot of momentum to take him back towards the casual championship.. or maybe even the elusive triple crown.
Trending: Up
16: M. Bison From Thailand... M. Bison!
In-Ring: Eliminated first in a fatal-four way, Lost to Dan, won a triple threat.
In-Plot: None
It's a sad season when Bison doesn't show up much, as we miss out on all the five-star matches he provides. Bison has always been criminally underutilized, and I'm hoping season 11 gives him the chance to finally break out and go for the gold.
Trending: Down
Next we enter the upper card.

Based on actual W/L record, some of these guys could be doing better. However, on actual momentum I'd say Gary, Arino and Bison are in the primes of their careers, while Duke is still considered an actual threat as well. Ebi...Ebi's gotta do something amazing fast to prove he's more than a single joke wrestler. I don't wanna talk about firings too much and whatnot but his name could be brought up soonish I'd feel if fan support continues to dwindle and fall like it has.

Bison just has serious untapped plot potential with about 3 different sources to work from. His VGCW run has seen him very reserved and I'd like to see more of his large ham tendencies to come out in the future. I also love that he is Face in VGCW as opposed to what he is in canon. He is the opposite of what Guile is and it makes him feel different to his canon source but not take so much out that he's unrecognisable. There's a couple of others who would also love plot but I can't really say any of them deserve to be in front of Bison right now.

Bison is best compared to Jade in that he's a five star machine who has been criminally underpushed since day 1. This man needs something to do.

Bison has never done anything Face like in his entire career, hes at best neutral. And I can guarantee that if/when he gets plot he will be 100% heel.
