Barret's honestly someone I see not quite as on the chopping block, but he really needs to step his game up because the crowd is running out of sympathy for him fast. Remake hype will only do so much for the guy.

One of reason why I think momentum rankings represent characters better than power rankings. Power Ranking is too reliant on "strength', or ranking of opponent. Barret was actually one of the reasons I wanted to try a different way of ranking characters that was based more on actual winning rather than who you win against. I like Barret and I understand why he was top 10 in the power rankings though. He beat Gary and Snake who were flying high in the top 10 at that point but only lost to Airman and Scorpion who were top 2 in the rankings so he barely lost any ELO at all.
Barret has been facing a ton of people who are or were flying high in the rankings. The last time he faced someone in the lower ranks (at the time of fighting) was Captain Falcon. He's had to face Ness, Bison, Airman, Snake 3 times, Donkey Kong, Gary twice, Dante and Scorpion since then and I think all of them were at least top 15 at the time Barret got to them.
For reference he's 32nd in the momentum rankings, 21 places lower than his power ranking.

Barret's one of those people who I feel gets consistently screwed by circumstances of the game, and I hate that I feel that way. He's no Ezio, but it feels like Barret's never just on the cusp of something great, he's built a summer home on the cusp and doesn't want to move out.

Oh hey I still have ten more wrestlers and the new season's almost here, better get this finished.
10: Groose From Skyloft, representing Three Mean Bullies, the VGCW Casual Gaming Champion... GROOSE!
In-Ring: Eliminated third in a fatal-four way, lost to Vegeta, won a casual contender's six-man, beat Kefka for Casual title
In-Plot: Feud with TJ&E, feud with Kefka
Groose has had an interesting season. After shrugging off his loss to the aliens, he proceeded to go absolutely bananas on the midcard, and secure himself his second singles title. Pretty good season for Groose, but he's just proving that he really doesn't need a stable, and it's not like either of his bullies have been helped by it at all.
Oh, you know, and his career might be doomed since he won the cursed belt, but let's see if Groose can fight past it.
Trending: Up
9: Travis Touchdown From Santa Destroy, representing the Fuckheads... TRAVIS TOUCHDOWN!
In-Ring: Lost to Duke, Beat Dracula, Beat Goemon, Beat Dante
In-Plot: Made to do odd jobs by Gary, framed by Dante
After a rough season 9, Travis has turned his career around in a big way, wracking up three wins in a row and finally getting some revenge on Dante. Who he's now back in a tag team with. Right now, Travis is in a really good spot, and if him and Dante can actually work together, this could be a huge season for the best assassin in the league. Hell, Travis could be right in line for the next title shot.
Trending: Up
8: Air Man From Mega City, representing the Mavericks... AIR MAN!
In-Ring: Won a six-man match, lost to Octodad, Lost Co-op titles to the Dragons, beat Duke, lost to Barret and Flint.
In-Plot: None
You've kinda been all over the place this season, huh, Air Man? Win a six man, eat a loss to Octodad of all people, and then turn around and body Duke. I don't get it. Meanwhile on the tag team front, the Mavericks seem to have collapsed a bit, losing their freshly won titles on the first defense, then eating a fairly embarrassing loss to Barret and Flint. Still, if Big Breezy can get some more momentum, he might be looking at the coveted triple crown in his future.
Trending: Singles: Up / Tags: Down
7: Donkey Kong From the Kongo Jungle, Representing the DK Krew,... DONKEY KONG!
In-Ring: Won a triple threat #1 contenders match, Lost to Scorpion, Lost to Phoenix Wright, Beat Toad, Beat Toad's Team
In-Plot: Kefka's Korner with Scorpion, joined team hoss.
DK has had his own ups and downs this season. After being heartbroken by Scorpion being the worst friend ever, the big monkey went on a rampage for revenge. Which was promptly swatted down by Scorpion refusing to let him get any offense in. A loss to Phoenix didn't help matters either. But then Baz McMahon got pissed about his favorite losing to Toad, sent in DK, and the rest was history. DK's recovered a bit from the damage that's been done, but he'll need some more time before he can start looking at that shiny golden banana belt again.
Trending: Up
6: Guile From the United States of America, the Unamerican American... GUILE!
In-Ring: Eliminated second in a fatal four way, lost to Layton, won the VGCW Championship in a triple threat, Beat Sabin and Dan in a tag match w/Kanji, Lost the VGCW Championship in a triple threat tables match.
In-Plot: Rubbed the title in Duke's face, and the crowd's. Committed the ultimate heel move.
It looked like season 10 would be just more disappointment for Guile. Then Nappa did something stupid, and the Exalt Operative took full advantage, locking right onto his target to win the third spot in a title match. Guile would continue to take advantage of his smarts to win the title off the prone champ using Ebisu's finisher.
Unfortunately for Guile, his smarts finally backfired when he ran into the one thing you can't outsmart. Muscles. Sabin would take a page out of Guile's own playbook to rob Guile of his title. But honestly, that's not so bad. Guile didn't eat the table, he's still high on the charts, and if he can channel the Guile of season 8, we might be looking at a second title reign for the traitor.

Just five left, though I may split into two posts depending on how many words I have to say about them.

I don't think the Casual Curse can hurt you when you're that high up in the midcard. Groose is pretty damn strong, and like Airman before him, he'll likely just power through whatever dark magic the curse has on it.

So many great things have happened with heels lately. Illidan and Guile's character arcs are two of my favorite of all time. They're great fun to watch.

Alright, let's finish this project. Warning: A lot of words ahead.
5: Kanji Tatsumi From Inaba, Japan... KANJI TATSUMI!
In-Ring: Beat Johnny Cage, Won a Triple Threat, Beat Snake, Beat Dan and Sabin (w/Guile), Beat Team Old Guard
In-Plot: Duke being dumb, Teaming with TJ&E
Kanji may be the single luckiest wrestler in VGCW history. He got here because Call-up plan #1 vanished off the servers and call-up plan #2's moveset broke. His win streak got as far as it did because Zubaz hit Dante with his finisher instead of Kanji. And said win streak happened at the perfect time, right after Scorpion finally lost the belt, Nappa shenanigansed himself out of the belt, and every single other wrestler had their momentum throttled. And now thanks to Mac funking up and unloading his sig on the wrong wrestler, he's got a title match against a particularly vulnerable champion to start season 11. If Kanji can RISE UP and take the belt, he'll have cemented the single fastest ride to the top in VGCW history.
Trending:Up
4: Ganondorf From the Gerudo Valley, the Dark Lord... GANONDORF DRAGMYRE!
In-Ring: Got to round 2 of the tag tourney, Beat Scorpion
In-Plot: Answered Scorpion's challenge.
Sure, there was the (hopefully) one night only reunion with Zangief, but other than that, Ganondorf's only had one match the entire season. And oh boy, what a fucking match it was. Ganondorf took on the longest reigning champion in VGCW history, the nearly immortal monster who it took the strongest wrestler in the company a money in the bank cash-in to take out... And broke him. Ganon traded blow for blow with Scorpion, staying ahead, until he just got pissed. Triforce of Power, Warlock Kick, and with a thunderous GVD, it was over.
This match was critical for Ganon's career. After the Nightmare humiliated Ganon at his full power at End Game 9, a lack of booking, and fairly subpar results, people had been doubting the Dark Lord's strength. Scorpion was just fighting for another trophy. Ganondorf was fighting for his throne as VGCW's greatest monster. If Ganon had lost, he'd have just been another guy that lost to Scorpion, and that could have been the end of all his mystique after a rather troubled few seasons.
Call it a bad match, call it catharsis, call it karma, call it a burial. It really doesn't matter, because for Ganondorf, it was a message. The Dark Lord has returned. And let VGCW tremble.
Trending:Up
3: Sabin Rene Figaro From Figaro, he is the VGCW Champion... SABIN RENE FIGARO!
In-Ring: Beat Edgeworth, Lost to the Practice, Beat Layton, Lost to the Birds, Beat Vegeta, Lost to Dan, Lost to Guile and Kanji (w/Dan), won the VGCW Championship in a Triple Threat tables match
In-Plot: Feud with Layton, dropped off stairs, shooting the shit with S&K
All I'm going to say about Sabin's tag team career is that he seems to be really bad at tag matches. (Also give us some Cage/Sabin plot.) Because the big story of this season is his singles career, and oh man, it has been one hell of a ride.
After a terrible season 9, Sabin entered into a feud with the man who stole his match, Professor Layton. What followed may have been one of my favorite feuds ever, followed up by a brutal beatdown of a match where Sabin unloaded a season and a half's worth of frustration into the devious professor. Also it gave us Sabin Math, which as we all know, is the best math.
Sabin would ride his momentum all the way to a triple threat tables match for the title. And despite some pitfalls in the weeks leading up to the match, the (former) king of suplexes took a page out of Guile's playbook: Letting the traitor set up the kill on Dan, taking Guile down from behind, and then putting Dan through the table. Sabin is finally on top of the world, when he didn't even have a job two seasons ago. Plus, he's got the most bizarre friendship with Sonic and Knuckles now, and that is comic gold.
...However, Sabin's now put into a must-win title defense against the newest kid on the block, Kanji Tatsumi. He didn't put the champ through a table. He lost two weeks earlier to Dan. Sabin's looking like a paper champion, and he's got a small legion of doubters ready to tar and feather him if he loses.

2: Scorpion From the Netherrealm... SCORPION!
In-Ring: Title defended against DK, Dante, Barret, Gary, and Snake. Lost title off Cash-in by Nappa, Lost to Ganondorf
In-Plot: Kefka's Korner about DK (worst friend ever), Championship promos, challenged Ganondorf.
For almost a year, Scorpion held the VGCW championship against all comers, and was the face of the company. Every title defense was important, and Scorpion soared to heights that will never be equaled again. 13 successful defenses, five more this season, four of those on the same night. That is just absurd. But for every rise, eventually, there will be a fall. And considering his fall was the strongest wrestler in the company with a handicap, that's nothing to be ashamed of.
But the real fall was still yet to come, as Scorpion went after the one trophy that eluded him years ago: Ganondorf. Let's be honest, most of us expected Scorpion to just squash Ganon like he had done to almost everyone else he faced. And then came End Game, where Scorpion finally went down cleanly and brutally. (Yeah, I know Phoenix bodied him earlier, but that's been passed off as extreme rules fuckery and Scorpion not taking the match seriously.)
I'm going to break my professionalism for a moment here to say that anyone whining that Scorpion finally ate shit after the trail of broken careers he's left in his wake (which I won't bother listing for length of post reasons) is objectively wrong. The entire concept of "the rub" has been proven time and time again to not be how this game works and the delusion that we were going to keep feeding people's momentum to Scorpion in hope of that mythical career boost is insanity. And you know what, at least the guy who beat him is a certified monster who actually knows how to put people over and make it mean something.
I'll be honest. Scorpion not only had to eat that loss, but it had to be a slaughter. It it was the only way for Scorpion look remotely mortal again. If Scorpion beat Ganon, we would have had to Kratos him, because the only thing left for him to do would have been to try and tarnish Nappa's championship win in a rematch. He certainly can not be allowed near the title ever again. Now, at least it looks safe to put him in marque matches against other wrestlers, and it may not be completely obvious that he's just going to eat them. (Though honestly, I'm still not sure if we can trust Scorpion to put anyone else over.)
Hey, maybe he can come back as Hanzo Hasashi.
Trending:Down
1: Nappa From the Planet Vegeta, Representing the Bad Men.. NAPPA!
In-Ring: Beat Haggar, Beat Scorpion for the title in a MitB Cash-in, Lost title in a triple threat
In-Plot: Shenanigans, got ass kicked by the Nightmare.
Nappa is without a doubt, the strongest wrestler in the company. He has never lost a singles match in 2k14, and never really looked close to losing in any of them. However, his matches are also really bad, and it is a damn good thing he screwed himself out of the belt before we had a second Scorpion situation on our hands. Oh yeah, congrats on finally cashing that damn briefcase in and winning the title.
Still, his plot is amusing, but honestly, I could actually see Nappa retiring or getting a legends contract in the future now that he's finally won the big gold belt and is defacto banned from the tag team division after Season 8. It's hard to say what he really has left to do, and unlike his partner, he doesn't have the work rate to back his plot up.

I'll be doing a bonus post or two after this with some extra thoughts probably.

Nappa's still undefeated in singles, yeah. One more win and he's got the record all to himself.
As for the Scorpion thing, I was upset at the time, but in retrospect that was mostly just due to A. being a fan of the guy and B. the match being a colossal disappointment. I agree with the statement that "The Rub" does not actually exist and him losing to Ganondorf is far from the worst case scenario when you think about it, since Ganon's the type of guy who can actually use it to his advantage almost immediately.

I feel like Nappa's match against DK at the go home show before End Game 9 was really good. Most people just had a supreme amount of salt because he reversed a finisher in the middle of the match even though he didn't get a pin off of it and DK probably wouldn't have either, and it TOTALLY crushed DK's heat despite him getting into and being really boring in the next contender's match.
But that's Season 9.
The MITB cash in and the triple threat were great matches. He really hasn't been booked too much as a singles competitor. I mean. The guy had a period of a year where he had 0 Vanilla matches at all, and he was in tag hell for two seasons.
For someone who has, numerically, been booked more than anyone else on the roster, he really hasn't been in a whole lot of singles matches.
He should totally fight Pheonix Wright. That could be a main event some slow night or a match at a PPV. I could easily see Nappa going up and asking Pheonix for the match on the context of Defending his streak, since Nappa and Pheonix have been bros since like. Season 2.

Nappa's still undefeated in singles, yeah. One more win and he's got the record all to himself. Has Nappa fought Phoenix in a while? Make him earn the streak from the guy who has it.
It would be a normal match obviously.

I turned extremely sour on Nappa in singles matches after that ridiculous match with snake.
He's always been pretty shit in the ring but he's been terrible since then. Beating Bison after one finisher for no real reason, that ladder match with Duke that was destined to fail because ladder matches suck and that mediocre match with DK have made it so that I never want to see him in another singles match. Or in general, because all of his multiman matches tend to be below average and The Saiyans are one of the worst tag teams ever match quality wise. I will give him credit for that time he trashed Sagat though

Hmm. Maybe it is time for Nappa to move on to other things, seems nobody really likes him in the ring and its not like hes the only character who has funny plot scenes. Also he had the belt, we all know if he had 1v1's to defend it then he would still have it, not to mention being in tons of season storys and ether feuding or teaming with almost everybody on the roster. He really has nothing left to do in the show,
Also hes not a video game character, and we need to make some room in the roster at some point.

Nappa would be a good canidate for a legend, really.
I'd like to have him stick around for the Sayains too though because I liked them...I'm sure someone else liked The Sayains too right..... Right?
