MAY IS BAE!
Hey guys. I've been doing some research into MOTN results because I was interested in who's won it the most times. Entertainment is a huge part of the show and MOTN generally do reflect on which matches entertained us the most whether it be down to match quality, unpredictable results or funny shenanigans. The MOTN's counted are from when VGCW started using the 2K14 engine. Should be a good way of seeing who is actually entertaining us overall though.

Rules I used for the findings;

- Rumble MOTN's weren't calculated. (40 people getting MOTN is too much!)
- Any matches within 3 votes of the actual MOTN were counted due to how close they are.
- Only 2K14 MOTN's were included.
- Match Of The Season is also counted and I've said who won it on the table.
- If you were part of a multiman MOTN and went out super fast you're still part of the MOTN!

Algorithm for the rankings as followed
Overall MOTN's > Number of MOTS's > Number of Solo MOTN's > Number of Tag MOTN's > Alphabetical Order

Any shocks to you guys that certain people have won it a load of times? Or even people youd expect to win MOTN a lot but don't?

the fact Airman has won several MOTN's is zero surprise to me
same for Illidan and Snake

NOPE.
Honestly a bunch of these results don't surprise me and validate a lot of my own opinions on who is fun to watch and who isn't. A little surprised to see Barret only have one win combined in tags and singles, thought he would've had one more than that (not surprised at all by Flint though). Also my hunch on Ganondorf being a great presence but a pretty bad wrestler is supported by this as well, with the caveat that he's booked pretty rarely. I haven't looked into it but I'm guessing one of those wins was the 4 way multiman with Snake, Ness and Vegeta, and it was the latter two who carried most of that match. His I Quit fight with Duke was an A+ brawl though, I'll give him that

Oh this actually has a thread now. Neat!

As far as my take on this, the biggest shock to see get more MOTNs than he should is Dracula. Did not expect him to take home that many MOTNs. And this confirms how poopy Nappa is in the ring. 0 MOTNs on his own.

I know Notty did this same thing with EDBW but he hasn't updated it in a while.

I really don't feel we have enough solid proof of Ganon's ring ability in '14 one way or the other
his '14 record is
Season 6:
a match with Duke in extreme rules
another Extreme rules with Wily
a vanilla singles with mr. Satan
a plot tag match with Duke against the dragons
a good I quit with Duke
Season 7:
Singles match with Ezio
The eternal triple threat with Duke and Guile
Season 8:
a fatal four way with Snake, Ness and Vegeta
a good singles match with DK
a beat the clock singles with Ezio
the chamber Kefka won
LMS against Dracula
Season 9:
4 straight tag matches as The Dark Lords
AVGN's retirement triple threat (underrated)
another tag match with the Dragons
MITB match that Nappa won
Nightmare Gabe as Pig Ganon (plottu match so not a real gauge)
Season X:
two tag matches with Zangief
a vanilla singles with Scorpion

Ganon really hasn't had enough vanilla singles with decently strong people to gauge his ring ability in my opinion

I think the reasons people chose there MOTN's are all different but here's what I've seen.

Match Quality - Was the match a 5 star mat classic?
Entertainment - Was there funny shenanigans or a great spot in the match?
Favourites - Did your favourite win or at least look good?
Winner - Did the 'right' person win?
Stakes - Is there something on the line for winning/losing?
Shock Factor - Did a low carder pull out a massive win over a top carder?

What makes you guys choose your MOTN's?

I always try to be objective and not be bias towards Muh favorites
if Airman puts on a stinker, I'm not voting for it

Sonic having 0 MOTNs at all is funny as hell to me just because he's someone I'd expect people to be totally behind and put on fantastic matches with his speed based moveset while flying around the ring.

I guess match quality alone doesn't neccesarily mean they are entertaining to us. Look at Goemon who is generally considered to be really good in the ring yet he only has 1 MOTN. Counterpoint that to Ebisu who is seen as much weaker than Goemon in ring yet has 4 MOTN's!

I think some characters don't really need to be good in the ring though as they provide something else to VGCW. Nappa is pretty awful in-ring but he's a presence because he wins a lot and is pretty awesome in plot, which is why he barely gets called for his head. Ganondorf can get by on presence and name alone so he doesn't neccesarily need to be good in ring either.
Characters who don't have entertaining plot or great presence really do need to be excellent in ring though.

For me, it probably goes Entertainment > Winner/Stakes > Favorites > Everything else in terms of how I decide what my favorite match of the night is.

'Match Quality' is nebulous and subjective as fuck and 'Shock Factor' means literally nothing when you're talking what is essentially two RNs being rolled at each other for ten minutes.

My definition of good match is something either tells a story or has moments that you don't see very often. Failing that, a 'satisfying' winner will improve a match, and sheer bias will lead me to just vote for people I like, given no stand out choices.

I would also be curious to see which spots on the card produce the most MotNs. Something I might look into.

This is super interesting. It gives a very interesting look into what the audience think.

Dracula and Illidan being at the top is surprising. Illidan is surprising because he WAS a heel, but he still kept getting MOTN's despite that, which is very difficult for a hated heel to do. Dracula though...it's easy to forget just how GOOD he was before his harsh fall after his loss to Scorpion.

That top 10 is really freaking stacked.

Maybe, maybe not. Chie's real strength lies in being equally good in both singles and tags (when weird shit isn't involved like with Zelda, Bayo and the KO match). With this system where the tag team is separate from the singles wrestler, she'd only have about 3 or 4 MOTN under her belt. Still a lot with WVGCW's infrequent booking though.

Anyway, yeah I forgot to mention that I'm pleasantly surprised with Drac's many MOTN victories too. The guy is good, he just loses too much that it hurts the aura created around himself.

Not shocked at Illidan being at the top, but a little shocked at Dracula. I guess we really did love that Drake.

My boy Haggar has 5 in singles and 3 with the Bullies, that's pretty good as well.

The People's Champ, Waluigi, with 1...Waluigi hates this.

The female version will be a little different to the male version. No tag teams will be in the rankings just because of how many teams that have won MOTN in 2k14 have split up recently. Instead a tag MOTN will go towards an overall total of Solo and Tag for that specific character. I'll post up a solo MOTN, tag MOTN and overall MOTN in the same table though just the rankings will be based on a combined total of solo and tag MOTN's.

Example from what I have now in table because I'm addicted to tables. I do have a way of sorting out ties as well. If both Peach and Roll have 3 MOTN's each then I'll rank them on an algorirthm of MOTS > Solo MOTN > Tag MOTN > Alphabetical Order

Unfortunately, he's spent the last couple seasons getting booked into the ground against people he's got no business fighting, on top of having very clear, demonstrable handicaps working against him. Honestly he's never been the super-top card fighter that a lot of people think he is, he's more like a gatekeeper to the top card like Little Mac was. If you can beat Dracula 1 on 1 then you have a real case to hang with people like Scorps, Dante, Phoenix, and so on. Just look at Travis, his most recent admission! He looks really monstrous fighting people who are clearly not ready though, like the pre-Pratitude Era Dan Hibiki which is one of my favorite squash matches in VGCW.

Our best heel GM still puts in work, and I hope he gets the help he needs in the coming Attohtude Era.
