NOPE.
If commentary were to be a thing, there'd need to be some standards set from the outset:

*It probably wouldn't be feasible to do them well live during the stream, so it'd have to come after the Twitch VOD and YouTube versions were already uploaded. From personal experience, being in calls when the shows go live are fun, but it's definitely a bunch of rambling when it comes to actually talking about the show and stuff. So recording commentary would likely have to be done after the broadcast to make it sound more professional.
*It'd probably have to be uploaded as an alternative version rather than as a full-on replacement for the current system. So there'd be multiple copies of each show on YouTube, one with commentary and one without so that it isn't a jarring switch for people who still enjoy listening to just the video game music and the occasional quips from King & Cole.
*There'd have to be some strict guidelines in place on what to do when commentating (stuff like little-to-none mechanics talk, no talking during plot scenes, commentators have to be actual fans of the show unlike the original iteration etc.)

I dunno, I think as an idea it can still work. It just needs the right people for it and some actual standards in place. But with the right people I do think it can be a good enough draw to gain some new eyes on the product.

e. sniped by TOH while I was typing this out but yeah, live commentary isn't possible especially if it comes from the people broadcasting. It'd have to be a side thing uploaded independently to YouTube after the fact.

The bigger question would be the actual content of the commentary. You'd have to do that perfect balance of actually calling spots but also explaining the story significance (or really anything related to the match)... which, believe me, is hard.

Hate to say it, but no one I've talked to in this community really has a super great commentary skill or setup, either. There's a certain tone you have to be able to hit and only certain equipment that can pick it up in a good way. I've never heard particularly good amateur commentary in wrestling. For something like VGCW, it feels like it would just become a couple of people remarking rather than reacting.

The exception is Doc Gilgamesh, who can Japanese commentate the fuck out of anything he wants.

I wouldn't mind giving it a try because I've had a bit of previous experience with wrestling vdieo game commentary and I've done a fair bit of casting in StarCraft 2, but I'm pretty sure it'd be an experimental thing, plus I don't have the means to do it, really. You'd need to download the YouTube videos in a format where it loses no quality, find a good (hopefully free and easy to use) program that allows editing of said high quality format, commentate it with a good microphone, and then save/reupload the video without losing quality. It sounds like a lot of trouble for something most people on this forum won't actually watch.

I wouldn't mind using the fun facts screens for a 'previously on VGCW' or something of the sort of the last season, since I feel it would be a perfect chance to take screenshots of plot from the last episode or season to quickly inform people of what happened

The problem with after-show commentary is twofold.

1: TOH can't do anything about that - it would basically have to be someone from the community doing it out of the kindness of their heart.
2: It would take viewership away from the stream. People would pass it up and just watch the commentated videos that come out after the fact.

So pretty much the only thing that could possibly make this work and improve viewership is if TOH himself invited people into a Skype (or better voice chat) call and had them doing commentary while he runs the show.

And that'd pretty much be up to TOH wanting to do it - which I can fully understand not wanting to do.

----------

That being said, if someone wants to do voiceover commentary after the fact, that is fine. I would just recommend trying to keep it somewhat in-character, and to definitely try to keep it as neutral as possible - I'm pretty sure getting salty over the results of matches is what made the original attempt fail.

What if we did something where whoever eliminates the most in a rumble will get a title shot too?

I love this idea, it's a nice consolation prize for those who weren't lucky enough to be among the final 5-6 entrants. Although, I'd say make it a Casual title shot for most eliminations, but that's just me.

I can't honestly understand why there is so much support for commentary...

The one time there was anything like that, it was that Comms thing, and those guys were awful and turned into assholes. Also, commentary would highly detract from the music being played, and if we were to do it live it would permanently effect the atmosphere when re-watching the match later in time.

If you want commentary, I honestly suggest watching the show with friends over Skype or Discord.
If you don't have a group already, there are talks of an open VGCW group being made on discord where you could boo or cheer among fans.

You can also do your own Comms thing if you want to. Just don't start randomly shitting on a show for a single creative direction, thus burning your bridges.

Unless it's something absolutely hilariously bad, of course? Like Rusev's Lawyer levels of bad.

That'll always be the greatest thing of the Realism Era. So much went wrong.

Personally I think Comms is a terrible idea, but that there's some merit to replacing King and Cole.

Fake announcers pretending to be serious sports critics trying to analyze moves and hype up an imaginary crowd for a fight? I could get behind that.

Fans essentially just inserting their own overly serious thoughts into what would otherwise be a show about silly wrestlers from video games? Nooooo thanks.

With Blood Money coming literally tonight, now would be a good time for anyone inclined to promote the stream to do so.

Now might also be a good time for the analytically-inclined to take notes on the big event and see what works well and might be improved upon.

Or you can just enjoy seeing Drac run a show like it's season 4 all over again.

Yeah, Blood Money is tonight, and after all the talk in this thread about getting the word out there, here's your opening, guys. You've got a visual to work with, too, given the poster. Let's make it happen!

Has anyone tried promoting VGCW on r/SquaredCircle that would know if it violates any rules of it?

No account there. :/

I did just promote it in tumblr though. Anyone with wrestling fan followers feel free to reblog.

So I went ahead and took the plunge and put it up on r/SquaredCircle. If it gets taken down, so be it, but hey, maybe it won't.

(Now to hope it doesn't get buried in the r/SC feed too quickly.)
