1000 YEARS!
|
![]() Figured we could use something like this and figured it was better to make a general thread for it rather then make separate ones of things like LoL, DOTA, Smite, HotS, etc. Thanks to Jinx's EDBW run I tried out League of Legends and really liked it and now I'm about to try out Heroes of the Storm. I've got to say my opinion of MOBAs has improved drastically thanks to VCGW, before I wouldn't touch them with a 39 and 1/2 foot pole but now I'm invested in them, so now I just have another game genre to tuck under my belt. Well feel free to post any of your MOBA experiences here. Edited by Shadowmaster47X, Nov 20 2015, 09:38 AM.

I played ASSFAGGOTS (specifically, League of Legends) from about 2012-2013. I really liked the lore and characters (Veigar da bess), but after playing that long I eventually realized that I just flat out was not having fun playing it. Since then I've heard that Riot has fucked the game five times over, so I'm glad I tapped out when I did. |

Ah eSports, where the drama is better than any soap opera. MOBAs are fun, but only if you have someone to play with, otherwise they can be quite the slog with all the toxic players and such. Nowadays, I only really enjoy watching high level play of the various MOBAs. But I can say that I really really like a good number of the character designs, the MOBA peoples employ really good artists. Edited by BAH GAWD KANG, Nov 20 2015, 09:57 AM.

Ladies Love it.

Used to play Leauge a lot until my friendgroup that I played with fell through, tried to get into watching "High Level Play" but never got interested by it, as most of the time it just looked like "Well that's exactly what I do, only somehow this works?" and just sort of was confusing. Then tried to play with randoms for a while, and that worked out about as well as one would expect. Sometimes I miss my assortment of Tanks. That's pretty much all I'd play, some form of Tank. And Tryndamere. |

Aw damn it's a MOBA thread, time to splurge on posts. I like me a good MOBA, but I'm running out of the energy for it. I might've already run out of the energy for it, almost exactly a year ago. My main fix is League of Legends, no surprises there, but I play that game as a compromise. EA took a team onboard called Waystone Games and they produced Dawngate for them. Now, an EA MOBA sounds like the devil, but that game was a beautiful thing. In addition to little gameplay changes and improvements like "hey you don't need to be thematically discouraged from buying certain items just because you deal the wrong type of damage" and "lets get rid of that blue bar that stops people from casting spells", that game had something very important that every MOBA, no matter its production value or demand, lacked. Persistently progressing story. Alongside the game ran a webcomic, which helped build the world, characters, and interactions. I'd kill if it meant I got to see Riven from League just... do more stuff, and this thing was slamdunking that desire left and right with its own characters. Before the 2K14 servers went down I even made three CAWs out of its characters and among them are some of my greatest CAW efforts ever. The decision to pull the plug on it was officially announced round about this time last year, so hey this thread is kind of timely. Ever since I've been more of a free agent of MOBA playing, scoping the market out to find the next big thing and all the while appreciating the niches of what we have. Except for Infinite Crisis though, that game staying active for any longer might've been a crime. Mr. Flamerider has plenty more to say about the genre but this post is already getting pretty lengthy and I risk looking like a dork so I'll drip it in when appropriate. Builder of civilizations that stand the test of time.

I don't have time to play Dota 2 anymore, but I enjoy watching the tournaments now and again. The International 5 and the current Frankfurt Major have both been really great so far. Feels like Valve have really found the sweet spot in balancing, where every hero can be viable and where staging comebacks is realistically possible. Christ, Team Secret won using a team with Huskar, Meepo and a support Tiny. That wouldn't have worked at TI4, let me tell you. |

As someone who comes from an SC2 background, this thread title pains me. I suppose it's excusable now that it's totally 100% dead now, but that shit was me and my friends' life back in 2011/2012. I only ever got to Platinum before I gave up towards the end of HotS, but I never really played enough to improve in any real capacity. The jury's still out for me on LotV, I'll wait until after Dreamhack I guess. We all moved on to LoL after, and this was way back in Season 2 when it was still alright. I thought the competitive scene was great, and remember that this was around the time of the Season 2 Worlds (the best Worlds) and IPL5 (the single greatest eSports tournament of all time for both LoL and SC2.) Both CLG squads were our eternal boys, especially the EU team. So inspiring for real. We had a pretty decent 5-man stack going with me as support. I wasn't bad at what I did, but my buddy in mid was actually pretty talented. I gave up early on in Season 3 when they butchered support mechanics and power creeped all the way away from the actual fun supports. After that, I got a little bit back into playing SC2, but eventually I just elected to watch events. The other HotS is my primary game right now to play and I think it's just the best. I think I'm pretty competent at it. Doesn't have all the problems the other MOBAs have in general, as in the game actually functions unlike LoL and it's a lot easier to get into than DOTA. If I had the time to put into DOTA I'd probably like it, but alas. I watch a lot of Melee, CS, DOTA and I even watch LoL events purely as a clown show. I'm a huge Team Liquid fan across all games, even bought the sick jacket they all have. ElKY joining TL was a big day in my life, believe me. Other than that, Secret, EnVyUs, Jin Air and ROOT all the way, KT is best KT and fuck ESL and TSM. Edited by CommanderVid, Nov 21 2015, 02:11 PM.

Does Rocket League count as e-sports? It's kinda on the fence in my mind. |

For the record this is a MOBA thread. The whole "e-sports" thing is playful association, since people watching streaming services like the ones we use for our video game wrestling probably never hear the end of it and it's always a MOBA. So no, in this instance Rocket League does not count as e-sports, you go talk about that game in the Rocket League thread. Man this is a super late and awkward response but there you go you got it. |
