At least it's not what happened to SMTxFE.
Jesus Christ.
As someone who couldn't care less about idol culture at least SMTxFE is actually original, different, has it's own identity and apparently plays very well. I'd prefer something different based on something I'm not a fan of over the fucking bland nothingness of this which seems to play like Sticker Star (read: ass).

It doesn't help that it shows they learned nothing from Sticker Star and Paper Jam where one of the biggest complaints from critics and the general audience alike was the lack of new environments, characters, enemies and a rudimentary storyline. Not to mention the widely reviled sticker system returning seemingly once again taking the place of RPG Mechanics.

Adding to what was said above, having to hit everything with your hammer to restore the colors seems like it could quickly become very tedious and boring.

Hey guys
Imagine areas where you have to hit all of the colorless objects in order to advance!
Wouldn't you love THAT type of backtracking?

Ugh.
That sounds as much fun as rescuing hordes of Paper Toads to use a slaves to build papercrafts.

The trailer showed him collecting limited attack items, Mario on his own in battles, and prominent stuff from Sticker Star. I think that's enough to be worried at the very least. That whole direct had more bad than good.
Genuinely curious what else would you say was bad? To me the direct felt more like on overall meh with a few nice little tidbits (new Kirby, new Rhythm Heaven finally get a localisation, PAL region finally getting its Fates release date) with this being being the only real sour note. I guess there's also Federation Force which I personally think looks neat enough but I've never been a huge Metroid fan so I can understand why some people feel differently.

I'm not gonna condemn it just yet but yeah not holding out too much hope for this one. At least Paper Jam was a nice return to form for Mario and Luigi, at least one of the rpg lines can stay good.

Besides Color Splash I was disappointed at them mentioning Dragon Quest 7 again but not giving a release date, and them not mentioning IV Final to begin with. The Federation Force section also felt weirdly hostile. I guess 'bad' is an exaggeration but it did feel disappointing.

Paper Mario... had a hard life.

You know, back when Super Paper Mario came out and Yahtzee Croshaw said it was time to put the Paper Mario series to bed and smother it, I though he was just being offensive for the sake of it. But come to think of it, he was right. The first three games were good (TTYD in particular being one of the tightest games on the Cube), and perhaps Nintendo / Intelligent Systems should have quit while they were ahead.

Guile did nothing wrong
I was pretty upset with Super Paper Mario back then but in hindsight I really didn't understand just how much worst things could get

While Super Paper Mario didn't have all of the RPG mechanics of the first two games, I found the platforming and crossing between 2D and 3D enjoyable. It certainly more than made up for that weakness with its script. Super Paper Mario's story and dialogue is the most engaging out of all the Paper Mario games.
