what was the point of taking the briefcase away from ganondorf if he got cucked out of his end game match anyway
- Captain Rodriguez
- Sep 7 2016, 10:20 AM
Or rather, what was the point of getting it back in time for End Game?
I'd guess the plan was for him to cash-in if Dracula won.

I'd guess the plan was for him to cash-in if Dracula won. That would've worked.
I guess having a face win only to have a heel crush him moments later would've been a pretty sorry way to end the season.
But Drac v Ganondorf would've meant either ending the streak, or immediately continuing it against a well-known indominable wall.
Though, we could have had all of that anyway without the briefcase heist subplot - so the question remains, was there any point behind the Blu Rogues doing what fhey did this season?

Spirit of Justice is coming today so here's a quick update.
Gary Oak
Matches: Won a Triple Threat (vs Travis/Ebisu), Lost to King Vegeta, Lost to Dr. Robotnik
Plot: Pissed off at King Vegeta, generally being a clueless tool.
Oh Gary. So, so in over your head, and so little self-awareness about it. Gary continued to be the biggest little shit on the roster, as spurred on by Armstrong, he picked a fight with the biggest ego on the roster. With control of the show not actually on the line, things went through a courtroom battle, a PPV with TWO RUMBLES, and Gary getting his clock utterly cleaned by the King of the Beach.
From there, Gary could only watch as Vegeta continued to succeed, as his King of the World tournament only resulted in the winner losing his crown to the Saiyan King. To add to his humiliation, he lost a quick match to Dr. Robotnik of all people, while Shadow Ball Valley held the tag belts for most of the season.
Sure, he won one match early, but his humiliations have just compounded since then. Not a good season... and it's clear that with Armstrong's plans in the background, and an empowered King Vegeta, GM Oak may not hold on to his power for much longer...

I really want to cover Guile and Goemon in the same update, so that's all for now.

I want GM Oak to be what ultimately takes down the Sons of the Patriots. It would be such a ridiculous thing to imagine which is fitting in how Gary achieved that General Manager position 3 seasons ago.
If Gary does eventually give up the GM position (which I wouldn't want), what role would he have next? Gary is best as an occasional wrestler and I don't think I can imagine Gary going back to just managing a single wrestler.

The only appropriate way for Gary to be taken down from his GM position would be to have a contender beat 4 other wrestlers, then to challenge him directly for the title.
So, basically another Great Tournament, but with Gary waiting at the top for a challenger.
Which, frankly, would be great.

Nah, Gary should lose it via a coup.
But would he be the Captain, the Duke, or the Contessa?

But would he be the Captain, the Duke, or the Contessa? The third one. The first two are already employed.

I'd guess the plan was for him to cash-in if Dracula won. I asked TOH about it, and it was due week-by-week booking combined with limited time being available to work on each plot and such. It's understandable.
Oh, and the failed Ganondorf cash-in after teleportation was because all the ring escape-related scenes involving the wrestler going in the direction of the ramp, which wouldn't really have worked with Ganondorf's intro. You can thank 2k14 for that, I guess.
As for Gary... I've greatly enjoyed him as GM, and I look forward to see how he'd react to what's been going on under his nose.

I want to see what you have to say about Guile since he's going to be in the next batch and I think that's a good time as ever for me to share my own thoughts on Guile leaving.

Yeah, I'm gonna throw together my Goemon/Groose/Guile post tonight..
Spoilers: Guile can always be thankful he wasn't as bad off as Goemon was.

So it turns out I am a filthy liar. (Also Spirit of Justice is really good, you guys.) Groose and Guile later today. Actually.
Goemon
Matches: Beat Reyn (MitB Qualifier), Didn't win MitB, Lost to Toad, Lost to Dan
Plot: Tried to get his tag partner back from Vegeta's court, taken out by Bison.
In the Bazza era, Goemon was one of the most underrated wrestlers on the roster, never really given a shot because he was "too anime." So he languished in the midcard, and flopped around, never getting a shot despite wracking up some decent momentum. The TOH era came around, and the team gave him a few shots... and it turned out he had stopped trying and blew every single one of them.
It's not like they didn't try this season. He got a fairly good worker in Reyn, and just flat out buried him. Then they gave him a super saiyan power-up, and a fairly amusing plot... and then he got buried by Toad. One loss to Dan later, and Goemon was once again in the same spot he's been in for years. No momentum, spinning his wheels, and generally getting ignored by the audience. It looked like he'd be in the same place... but he found Guile. The two looked like they were going to make an unlikely new team...
..and then Bison murdered him. And almost no one cared. Just look at his thread. There were more posts empty quoting deadgoemon.jpg and... whatever the hell DonkeyKonga was doing in that thread than actually mourning his apparent demise. There was more issue taken with the way Goemon left than the fact that he was being retired. And honestly... we're not missing much given his terminal case of Apathy Syndrome.
So here's hoping Goemon's last match goes well. I unfortunately can't even call him a reliable midcard hand, given his performance in the TOH era, but he's earned at least that much.

I'm not gonna say that Goemon shouldn't have been fired - objectively that was the right decision, and I'm sure it wasn't done lightly. But enough people have changed their standing in this new era that it seems unfair to blame it all on him, even if he wasn't a fan favorite.

I like Goemon, but I understand why he was being treated like a loser since Goemon has not really achieved any substantial success in his VGCW career, got a lot of heat despite being a face, and wasn’t really improving as a performer. So Bison offing him like that, while harsh, is something I can understand and I ultimately agree with the decision to cut him (let this be said that I am glad Goemon is getting one last match to prove himself).

Groose
Matches: Lost to Asura (Tables), Lost a triple threat (eliminated second), Beat Snake, Third Place in the RR, Beat Kanji, Semi-finalist in KotW (Beat Ridley, Lost to Seifer), Lost to Dan.
Plot: Tried to get Guile to join his new bullies, ignored by Bowser and Ridley.
Well, this has been an interesting season for Groose. Without his bullies, he's been forced to go it solo, and without his title, he's been down in the dumps. But in ring, he's actually gotten a lot of booking (seven matches in a fifteen match season is pretty damn good) and has proven himself as an upper-midcard (but not quite top-card) threat.
Groose's season is best described as a bell curve. He looked really bad early as Asura smashed him. His next showing was a bit better though. Starting with his Snake match, the bully started to get some nuclear heat and looked quite scary in the process. He then came close to winning the royal rumble, bullied Kanji into submission, and had to unload his entire arsenal and then some into Ridley to put the space dragon down.
Of course the other end of a curve is the fall. Seifer ended Groose's small streak, and Dan followed up with another defeat to knock Groose out of title contention for the time being. But he looked good in both those matches, and can look forward to picking himself up (and maybe stop whining a bit) for season 13.
At this point, Groose has yet to restore himself to the level of VGCW Championship threat, but he's got a good place for himself in the upper-midcard now. Plus he's the one of the few heels left on the roster with some actual credibility. (Just don't make him fight Octodad) Overall, on a slight downward trend as the season comes to an end, but compared with his dominant title reign from last season, not much would like a trend upwards.

Goemon...
I remember when Goemon first appeared on the show. The thing that made the biggest splash, apart from his horrifying anime face, was the fairly hype "GANBARE" in his song. He had an appropriate high-flying moveset, but other than that, he barely had any fans, and never really shined all that brightly.
If I had to chalk it up to anything, I'd say his obscurity is to blame for his lukewarm following. Mystic Ninja fans are few and far between, and he hasn't really got any meme magic backing him up either. All he really ever had was his face, his song, and his performance.
I have to hand it to thr TOH era for trying though - building on his connection to Goemon and anime was a move that sparked some life in him...but as a main character, his personality was always doomed to feel a bit flat, and without much direction...I can totally understand why he's being retired.
It's a shame though, I would have been all aboard for a trans-Pacific partnership between him and Guile.
-----
Oh, Groose snuck in while I wasn't looking.
Haven't got much to say about Groose to be honest. His early loss to Asura was the high point of Asura's season, and the rest of Groose's season left something to be desired.
Don't get me wrong, he's still very respectable and still very entertaining, but match-wise and plot-wise, he needs to get something going again, before he starts slipping into a pit of irrelevancy.
