That was a great show TOH. I had a ton of fun watching it, so much so that I was surprised to see the Main Event screen pop up. Time flies when you're having fun, so that says a lot right there.
Thanks for busting out Gary's full pyro for his grudge match with Red, and on that note, the same goes for the DK Rap, the Hell Kick, Sabin's rap, etc. This whole final stretch is feeling like an End Game of sorts. I really like that, and it's making even these dream and grudge matches have an End Game feel to them for additional hype to see the series off. It's a good road to X3 and doesn't kill Fits in the process.
This write-up is long, as usual. Green/Blue/Gary vs. Red was a great match to open the show with, basically cementing that we're in money match territory with a long, solid feud to jerk the curtain. Gary had a surprisingly good start against Red, but the Kanto Kid started running it back and made things competitive to the end. Red even managed to seamlessly hit the Giga Impact, and for some reason I'd forgotten that the Mew 2 was a signature move of his, so to see the Impact appear after all was great because it meant he really was going blow-for-blow with Gary. Oak managed to narrowly get the win, but with the fight Red was dishing out he seemed seconds away from wrapping things up himself. It's an unfortunate note for Red if he doesn't have, say, a final Saturn Badge match at the house show or for a surprise End Game match, but it was a fun battle to watch, and Gary gets a final high note among the few ones he's had. Also, it was great that the crowd tried to shout out as many Pokemon attacks as possible throughout this literal Trainer Battle.
The Fatal Fourway was great. DK was a neat surprise, but Mario blew everyone away. Gonzales showed his ring rust at first, but no one was blaming the guy, and the canon battle between him and DK to begin the match certainly gave him a good moment to start with. Dan and Duke were fierce against each other, but the match really came to life with that blood-drawing chair shot Nukem unleashed on Mario. Shortly afterward Mario understandably switched to fighting Duke and the two just tried to slaughter each other for the rest of the match. They didn't attempt to get back in the ring or break up pins at all. While Duke is still a formidable competitor and Mario was rusty, the Italian plumber was determined to make sure he brought down Duke no matter what beating he took in turn. While that great slugfest was going on, Dan was stuck against DK in a fight tense with reversals, especially after DK thwarted the Pratitude Adjustment twice in their last battle back in Season 11. Donkey Kong hit his customary dongings, but him dishing out high-impact sexual violence to Table-san was just perfect. It was the only Table-san spot of the night and of course Mr. Expand Dong himself would be doing it. Dan showed surprising heart afterward and he impressively clutched things out in the end by pinning the primate to go out on a high note. Oyaji bitch!
Kanji put up a great fight against Jensen set to Persona 5's "Last Surprise", even throwing in a little 2K dancing for Dancing All Night, and it was a good battle for him after his recent troubles. Kanji was the one who foolishly rose up Jensen at Survival, eating an Octomad for his efforts, so in a way he got to make up for that to an extent. Jensen held off on the Typhoon for a while to see if he could pick Tatsumi apart then end things in one shot, but his tactics weren't enough to seal the deal when he fired it off. Kanji did come close to being put away by an Augback soon afterward though, but Adam installed the bad chip and Kanji didn't give him any more opportunities to do a blitz with the boost.
I wasn't expecting The Mavericks' mystery opponents to be the Disciplinary Committee, who hadn't tagged since End Game 7, but they put in some good work against the machines. It's always great to hear Light up the Night, and Air Man Ga Taosenai could only improve things further. Break Man seemingly learned from the title loss to The Sayians and tagged Breezy in more, but Air Man would effectively troll the audience by twice tagging out almost immediately during his iconic song. I was surprised when Break Man won when he did, but Break Man pulling off some insanity to flip the bird at his opponents and mankind is still in-character, and he chose to forgo his still unseen corner Finisher for the opportunity to humiliate Seifer with his own move. True to "The Stand", Break Man judged humanity and made that perhaps his final statement in VGCW.
Ezio apparently got arrested at last for all that ass grabbing and fought the charge (or was very uncooperative with his lawyer) against Phoenix Wright. Again Ezio appears to reinforce that his wrestling prowess changes with his mood, as he held strong against the senator-smashing lawyer. Nick hit an awesome sync with his Lie Detector, a move that incidentally would wreck the utter shit out of Mr. Aziz's pizzas, but he would make an incorrect reversal (law joke) that Ezio thoroughly capitalized on, going utterly ham to prevail in this brawl inside the bird cage. It's been one hell of a season for Auditore, a humongous improvement compared to the last one, and if he's not booked from here then he at least ends his VGCW career on a good run.
I sure as hell didn't expect Dracula vs. Alucard, but it was extremely easy to get hyped up for in no time flat. Alucard's CAW is phenomenal, lacking no detail from Symphony of the Night that the game doesn't outright prevent, and the ring of fire as "Black Banquet", SOTN's final boss theme kicked things off, made the excitement kick off straight away. Alucard's unfamiliarity with the squared circle was quickly apparent, but he learned well as he went along and must have swapped to all of his best gear around the time he was getting stomped in the corner again. The Alucard Sword's special attack and the Death Valley Driver swiftly made up ground, and from there it was a close fight to the finish as Alucard reversed practically all attacks that tried to hit him when he was down. Ultimately he was a shade too CV III than SOTN as his father unleashed the Impaler to end the family feud. Alucard got some great syncs during the match, shades of his old man, and him waking up out of nowhere with his sword's special attack just felt really fitting for his no-nonsense attitude, all things considered.
A Soviet hoss fight closed out the show as the now unironically pushed Zangief squared off with the Heavy Weapons Guy. Zangief wasn't about to let his size hinder his agility as he begin things with a bang via a concrete sunset flip, and the energy never dipped from there. These bruisers didn't drop any combos due to height here and Gief jumped higher than ever for his Giefbusters while Heavy's power moves went unhindered by the Red Cyclone's heftiness. The music was a huge star in this match with tons of great syncs throughout, especially during Tetris. I have to give Zangief credit, he hit most of those solid syncs, but Heavy was absolutely no slouch with them either. Hoovy's Ubercharge after the first Gief Bomb was a great moment, and he made an impressive kick-out against a second Final Atomic Buster and kept the Tetris tune untz'ing on. His greatest sync was when he tied up the match at the exact moment the singer said "three" and the number was on the screen. Zangief was narrowly short of making a clutch kick-out of his own, and Heavy nabbed a big win to crown a Singles career that would have been fun to see fleshed out more.
On the plot front, I like the little touch of how King Vegeta increasingly becoming explosive has led to Nappa not being as all caps as he used to be.
Gary spitting fire was hilarious. He's such a great GM. Oak can be both petty and motivated and it's seamless because he's 10. Also, he actually bothered to read why Octodad and Raiden are fighting, so he's actually improving there. Him just giving his bratty digs even made stuff like the expanded Practice all striking the same pose all the more amusing as a backdrop.
That was a good fake-out where we thought Ganon might be respecting the Casual Title then revealed he was still basically burying it. Being a prick like that is admittedly very in-character, even if I'd have liked a champion Wily more. I enjoyed how he predicted Zubaz interrupting him too, and Zubaz was pretty likeable in the lines he got before Ganon humorously pummeled the crap out of him. That plot was a great little way to include Ganon's Ocarina of Time laugh too.
The intro said all that needed to be said. Armstrong might need someone to talk him through this Zubaz Era. Stuff like pointing out that "hey, in your world where survival of the fittest is all that matters, a man took back his life with his own two hands." The fact that Zubaz is the contender at the end of Survival, an event orchestrated by the Darwinist Armstrong no less, is still absolutely hilarious and a perfect VGCW moment.
I'm really looking forward to this final stretch, and thank you for keeping VGCW alive and as amazing as ever TOH and Co.

That promo made me feel some kind of way. Still not used to the idea of VGCW ending.
