Segeta would appreciate this thread. What is your favorite Sega Saturn game?

Mine is and always has been Die Hard Arcade. I freaking love beat em ups and I probably always will.

I'm gonna give an honorable mention to Clockwork Knight, a very underrated gem and good luck finding it. Oh who am I kidding. Good luck finding any Sega Saturn games these days. :idunno: if they even exist anymore. If they do PLAY THE SEGA SATURN!

Anyway those were a couple of mine. What are yours?

That's what you get for not playing the Sega Saturn. :stare:

I clearly play Sega Saturn, so I am going to enter in the canned response of Guardian Heroes, Daytona USA, and Saturn Bomberman, because I am a Sega Saturn player.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Haha. All of those were great games. I wish I played that many of them.

Panzer Dragoon I did play some off. I was really young and barely remember anything about it but it was very fun. Great game for its time.

All of the Panzer Dragoon games were superb. My personal favourite was Panzer Dragoon Zwei.

Shining Force 3 was excellent. Shame only Scenario 1 was ever officially translated. I must get around to playing the fan translations some day.

Guardian Heroes was incredible. If you've not played it get the XBLA port ASAP.

The original Daytona USA port was iffy, but Sega Rally was damn near perfect. Same for Virtua Fighter 2 which was about as perfect a port as you could get, only missing the background bridges on Shun's stage.

Dragon Force was a really fun RPG/strategy game with massive armies and a ton of replayability thanks to all eight rulers' story modes being dramatically different.

... there's probably more I should mention. Oh, and DN3D had realtime lighting on Saturn, and Quake had coloured lighting.

All of these are great choices. Shame I never played any of them. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I shall find them all someday.

You can never go wrong with Virtua Fighter ever. Or Fighters Megamix.
I liked the versions of Symphony of the Night and Megaman 8 the Saturn got.

Saturn Bomberman was pretty wicked. When I heard of it back in the day it absolutely blew my mind it had 10-player matches. I've always wanted to play it, especially in a full 10 player match, but never had the chance.

Megaman 8 is such an underrated Megaman game. I had so much fun with that one. I wish they made more like it.

I'll be honest. As a fledgeling Sonybro at the time, I was extremely buttfrustrated that Megaman 8 PSX didn't feature the extra throwback bosses. On top of that, the fact that a lot of Capcom and SNK fighters were more or less better on the Saturn, provided that you had a RAM cart.

It sucked that X-Men vs. Street Fighter PSX was just so... well, bad, really.

I loved the fact that Fighters Megamix had what was basically a preview of Virtua Fighter 3, what with tweaked movesets for the Virtua Fighter crew, and Virtua Cop 2's Janet being given Aoi's moveset. Also, it was likely everyone's first exposure to the second-greatest vidya hero of them all, Rent-A-Hero.

Even if the controls weren't the best (the arcade version is vastly superior) you can't go wrong with this song.

The Sega Saturn was actually my first Sega console. My mother managed to misplace basically my entire collection around a decade back, and I missed out on a lot of quality titles, but I've been slowly building it back up and adding the gems that I missed out on when I was a teen.

My favorite game without question is NiGHTS into Dreams. Not my favorite Saturn game, mind you; my favorite game period. It has an insane amount of atmosphere and creativity, well-designed stages, a wonderful soundtrack that changes based on how you interact with the Nightotopians (the cherub things; the A-Life system that predates the chao from Sonic Adventure), imaginative and unique bosses, and is one of the few games where I actually cared about trying to one-up my high score. If I was given the choice of only being able to play ten games for the rest of my life, that would easily be on the number one spot.

Oh, and because I hadn't seen it mentioned Darius Gaiden is a hidden gem for the system, and is when the series actually started to get good. Challenging stages; good space opera-y music; branching routes, each with their own final bosses (and even the shared bosses had different attack patterns)... man, I could go on about that game for a while. While it wasn't a Saturn exclusive, but considering (a) that the PSX version wasn't released outside of Japan, and (b) how well the PS1 did with running 2D games as a whole, it might as well have been.
