Thoughts on the XIV beta: There's a lot to be said about XIV: ARR but I'll keep this short. Combat is slow and restricted. Let's be perfectly honest with that, this isn't a game with a bunch of different buttons to keep different buff or debuffs going to play optimally. However, each ability does offer a distinct advantage or disadvantage that builds on itself. THMs are a good example of this, as they move between two stances: Fire and Ice. Ice Stance gives you increased mana regan and increases the Ice damage you deal, while lowering the cost of Fire Spells. Fire Stances greatly increases the mana cost of your Fire Spells, the damage of your Fire Spells and stops mana regen. These stances are started by casting that schools spells, which leads to THMs weaving Fire, Ice and their Lightning spells to balance their mana pool. It's a fun interaction I wish the other classes got to see. CNJ and GLD are incredibly boring in comparison. Chat and UI are strong, however the restricting of chat inside of instances is annoying. Linkshells as a global, invite only chat system works out well. The UI itself is stylish and responsive, though there is a noticeable lag between creature attack times and when you get hit. XIV pressures you to move out of the way of attacks but if there is to much lag, it's pointless. Graphically, it's a gorgeous game. Each starting city and area feels unique, each class has their own signature look and each race has distinct qualities to them. The shadow system is notoriously taxing though and it's still a DX9 game. Hopefully we'll see even more improvements in the DX11 version next year. FATEs are inspired by RIFT and GW2, but they remain just as fun. They are a great alternative to traditional leveling or questing, offering pretty substantial rewards. Thankfully with the Level Sync system even if you over level a FATE you can sync down and still participate. What I find that sets XIV apart from every other game is atmosphere. There is a sense of a full world in XIV, even out in the barren deserts. Most NPCs have dialog, and they are scattered everywhere in the world. Each zone has it's own personality, from rolling hills, to sharp cliffs or dense forests. It's by no means a flat world, it moves and curves with foliage and life around every corner. From the Architecture to the armor to the animations to the music, this is a Final Fantasy game and it revels in it. I'll be picking up a copy for me and my wife on release. I played The Game and got stuck with Dunn for a month.

My only hope is this ends up being on the PS3/4 eventually once fully released. No way in hell I can run THIS game on my laptop without it imploding, but I'd go all for it if there's a console release planned. I played FF11 to death years ago, and I will most def. play this when I can. |

Goodnews, it's already in beta for PS3 and is set to be released on the PS4 at the start of the year. |

Oh, is it? Any way for someone to get an invite? Or is it a closed beta? |

The third phase of beta testing was completed fairly recently. Still waiting on confirmation for the fourth phase, though I'm assuming it'll basically be a "head start" for the retail release. I think you can get in on the fourth phase by preordering / prepurchasing the game. No guarantees, though. |

Pretty much just waiting to play the game more once it releases. Don't want to proceed to far during the beta phase and burn myself out. When the game comes out, I will certainly join you guys. |

I'm still not entirely sure how much I will end up playing it, but I did my preorder finally. Even if I end up only playing it for a few months, SE had some balls to actually rebuild a trainweck of a game, and the team seems to actually care. So I'll support that. I agree the combat is a little slow but it's a nice change of pace. THM is a lot of fun for me, and you can still screw yourself temporarily if you ignore your mana, or are silly and never transpose. Even Beta 3 had a lot of side content and it seems they are adding even more for release. Right now my hardest decision is what server to play on. |

Getting the game as well, as some of my friends are joining. Think the main reason I hated 11 was I had to pug everything, which isnt the best experience <_< Dunno what server ill be on tho |

Other than all the problems with server load, enjoyed P4. Definitely picking it up now. I have a feeling I will be fishing while watching VGCW now. That said, I wish the server wasn't full constantly so I could actually play.. but I got 2 full days on at least. |

Allegedly, the servers were full all weekend because of Error 3102, which affected a huge portion of the playerbase and left "ghost data" of those players on the server, rendering them unable to log in while their characters were still technically considered connected to the game.

ARE YOU REALLY FEELING IT, BROTHER?!

I enjoyed what I played of the game. Played a Roegadyn pugilist. Definitely coming back for live and fighting alongside Security Guard L.

You may have to start grouping up again in 14 2.0, though, for guildhests, dungeons, and the like. That said, I'll most likely be grabbing this the weekend after launch. I never did get to try fishing out during Phase 4, which still irks me since it was one of the timesinks I desperately wanted to try out in Phase 3. |
