Since we don't already have a thread for #1 Contender speculation, as far as I can tell, here it is. So Mac has managed to fend off Jensen with his characteristic brutality, and win his first title defense. So who's going to be the next performer to take a shot at the Champ? There is an additional wrinkle, though... Today's night announced an Endgame match between two of the biggest possibilities on the list: DK and Air Man. If the next title defense is going to be at Endgame 5, then that's going to effectively remove them from the running. Another big name, Ganondorf, also has a grudge match with Zangief planned for that night. So, who else is left to challenge Mac? I could see the following four-way match as a possibility: Groose vs. Arino vs. Sagat vs. Kefka. Sagat just proved himself admirably in a match against Kefka and the Nerd, so I could see him easily getting a title shot. Arino also proved himself with an upset against Nappa, who was flattening the Kacho until he managed to put the Baldman through the barricade. Groose is one of the biggest names who isn't already in a match, and Kefka is also a proven competitor. Other possibilities include Bowser or Raphael (though they haven't really been active this season), or even Gaben (though he might be occupied with dragonball-related plot). So, who do you see as possibilities for contendership? Discussion of possible Casual contenders is also welcome. |

I expect Kefka to get involved in plot somewhat soon, since he laughed at the end of the Season 5 teaser at the end of Season 4. Bowser and Raphael are (sadly) very unlikely, unless Bowser gets a new CAW or Bazza suddenly starts liking Raph. Haggar and Groose are some of the few "top-tier" characters not involved in any plot. Sagat seems strong too, but maybe it's too soon to give him a contender shot? I'm not sure about Arino, having someone hold two titles can be a bit too much (even though I don't see him beating Mac). For Casual, I can see Phoenix, Mr. Satan or Dan getting a shot, even if they haven't appeared that much this season. Ryo and Falcon could also get a chance, maybe even Waluigi, or Gary! Yeah...no, one win against Luigi does not earn a chance at the belt. Edited by slashkamei, Sep 7 2013, 11:48 PM.

Some ideas for a four-way Casual Contender Match: Tingle vs. Waluigi vs. Protoman vs. Ryo Hazuki Tingle and Waluigi both seem to have good streaks going. Protoman also managed to win his latest match, which might make him a good candidate for a Casual run. Ryo handled himself well against Mac, so he might do well in the Casual league, though he might need another match against a more equal opponent to fully gauge his ability. Phoenix Wright or Mr. Satan might also be good alternatives, if Waluigi is unavailable due to plot reasons. Sabin could also be a good candidate for a Casual run, if he actually got any matches. |

That was an old CAW. This new one can hang with Gaben. Though I do think we need to see more of it before he gets anywhere near a title shot. |

Can hang with to tap out. Why not KOTR to determine 1# contender for both, winner going for the VGCW and the best runner up for the casual? We've not had one in a while.

Maybe Airman vs DK is actually a no.1 contenders match. They both have the titles in their sights with their streaks after all.

Sabin did get runner-up in the Royal Rumble, so that should put him somewhere for a contender spot for the casual title... Also, Mr. Satan said at Endgame 4 he wanted to go for the main title, but 8-1 happened, so his standards have been lowered drastically. |

I miss Barrett. It seems he's getting a little bit of a break after some very heavy exposure, which I suppose makes sense. But the hype whenever he shows up is addictive. |

Guile did nothing wrong
|
The Casual scene is pretty unpredictable right now. Since Wario managed to beat Segata (Even though the finish was bullshit and Segata should of had that), it proves that he's human. I could see either members (or both) of Wario Ware get involved, and Ryo showed a lot of heart and is definitely a possible contender. Maybe Snake, but I don't really see him gaining too much more momentum. There's also guys like Proto, Luigi etc. that could always step up. Sadly, Phoenix probably isn't going to win anything any time soon, so I'd leave him out. I would also like to see Guile get another shot since he's shown himself to be a better fighter than Duke. Finally, Scorpion still needs to get that strap. But the boyhood dream may never come true ![]() There aren't too many well established options for the VGCW title since most of the big names are already being booked. I could see maybe Kefka getting a shot, but he's been pretty mediocre lately. You could add Groose or Haggar, but the matches would seem kind of repetitive. Not really sure. Im pretty much just hoping for someone to make a big breakthrough for some new blood in the scene, like maybe Sagat. |

This would be pretty awesome, they're both red-hot right now and throwing even more on the line than the streaks would make it even more hype. |

To reopen discussion on the #1 Contendership(since I'm guessing that the #1 Contender match for Endgame is coming next week)... Who do you think we'll see in the running for the championship? Gabe is a definite possibility, especially since he appears to have given up on the Dragon Balls. Wario's victory over Arino might also give him the boost he needs to take a shot at Mac, though he's still involved in the dragonball plot. Maybe he'll get cocky since he's already got three balls, and leave Waluigi to gather the rest while he chases the gold. Groose, Sagat, and Kefka are also strong possibilities. It's also possible that Haggar will look for a rematch against Mac, though there hasn't been a true #1 Contender Match (besides the royal rumble) since he first dropped the belt. So, any thoughts? An alternative plan might be if the winner of the Air Man/DK match will end up facing Mac later in the program, as a few have suggested... |

Frankly, I feel that what should happen is The Winner of the Match between Airman and DK should be Number 1 contenders because I honestly feel that throughout season 5 the two of them have proven their cases the best, plus it would create a even more crazy atmosphere for the match as well as repair some of the damage done by DK's Phantom Gaben loss. Plus if that winner went on to gain the title from Mac, and then Defend against the MiTB cash in by Barkley, it would just make for a crazy story line for the night that would be entertaining as hell. However, that said, I am not sure if Story Creation mode would let you branch a match and then program the winner later in the night, then program a potential MiTB cash in afterwards. If that is the case, I figure we will something like a Groose, Sagat, Kefka, And Gabe fatal 4 way for number #1 contender. Edited by Denieru, Oct 9 2013, 05:08 AM.
