I'm surprised we are going for another VGCW contender without doing the Tag belts first.

Also, I'm not so sure if Phoenix will get that shot since his most recent match...was the last #1 contenders match, but it has happened before.

I'd say people like Dracula or DK are likely. Guile could get a shot off his triple threat win, but plot might get in the way. Johnny Cage could ride that MK push even farther off the Gabe win, and if you want to stretch it Goemon could get it.

NOPE.
Phoenix vs. *Insert Heel Here*

Likely Drac, Guile if plot doesn't disallow him from going after titles. Either way, the winner of that match would deserve their contendership.

Please not Drac. I can't take this anxiousness, and his opponents haven't really been top caliber.. DK would be appropriate in that he is the previous big streak guy but we'll see.

No one deserves a place more than Phoenix does right now, even if his last fight was a contenders match. That doesn't necessarily mean Baz will put him in it though, because it also is quite predictable. I'm very curious as to who we'll see. Drac does seem a good choice, but some people want to see him go against a big name and win before he gets his chance.

There are two names above Nick on the power rankings who could be applicable, Little Mac and Duke, but they have both lost their last matches, but they were also triple threats, so I dunno if that will stop them. Otherwise, Donkey Kong or Guile could show up. There's quite a good selection to pick from. It's just some are more obvious choices than others.

Watch there be a plot around Gary whining to Gaben and Illidan gets in the match...against Phoenix.

Baz having a one on one match to determine a #1 contender? A VGCW first!

I hope it is Guile vs. Phoenix Wright because both guys deserve it.

For the main title, yes. Pretty sure the first 1v1 #1 contenders match was Casual contenders match that had Scorps fight Falcon.

If this is a one-on-one, I actually think Guile might show up for this one. A title shot would be exactly the sort of thing that would draw him out into the open. After the match, whatever its outcome, I figure we'll see Johnny Cage come out to reveal that Guile was the Black Ranger, setting up their feud.

There is a slight chance that the match will be Johnny Cage vs. Guile. Cage did beat Gaben, one of the titans of VGCW, but would he really be given a chance at Scorpion? After all, he was the Red Ranger, and he's still new to the league.

Maybe he'll cut a deal with Gabe where he'll tell all about the Rangers in exchange for the title shot, which is all a setup to draw Guile into the open to expose his true identity.

If this doesn't happen, then I'd say Phoenix, DK, and Dracula are all possibilities for the match.

Order! Order in the court!
I don't think my heart could handle Phoenix vs Scorpion, especially this early in the season when a matchup like that is endgame material. Not only that, it seems way too predictable booking-wise, and Phoenix could use a break especially since he hasn't had a match since the contender match.

Although, I won't lie, as a Nick fan, a match one on one in a contender's match is his best bet for making it into the Championship Match, but whatever.

My most heart-healthy bet would be Bowser vs Duke. That's two huge monsters going at each other for the first time, it'll be a treat to watch.

Doubt Guile's having a match simply for plot-related reasons, but I wouldn't mind seeing him.
Guile could replace Duke, Drac could replace Bowser.

Hell you can even throw in AVGN actually, or maybe it's too early? Whatever, this post has gone on long enough.

Nah, AVGN just had a big main title push. Plus, the only thing he's done since dropping the Co-Op Championship is beat Ezio twice. I'd give him a break for at least another season.

1 vs. 1? Wow, things really are changing in the VGCW. That narrows down the contenders.

In light of the change to 1 vs. 1, the "no back-to-back contenders matches" rule might also be changed here, in which case Phoenix Wright is back in the running. He has great ring work and an awesome streak right now that has seen him defeat some of the strongest people in the league. As for his opponent, I'm thinking either DK or Guile. DK is in the top 10 of the Power Rankings, might be due for a push after getting Glitch Bomb Busted in Season 3, and he was the previous streak man in the league. While I personally think Wright's already defeated DK's streak, some people still count DK's two Glitch Bomb matches before he went legit and had his streak, so this match could determine if Wright can doubly defeat DK's record.

Guile is another possibility, as he has improved greatly in 2K14. His win in the Triple Threat saw him put his money where his mouth is, and pinning Duke even kind of got him vengeance for their neck-and-neck battle in which a single Finisher reversal decided it. A shot at the main title also seems like it could be just the thing to get Guile to appear again, allowing Cage to confront him.

A lot of people have mentioned Dracula, but if it's a 1 vs. 1 match I don't think he's worthy enough to get in. He's just outside of the top 10 and hasn't had any big wins since dropping the Casual Title. He defeated Bison, which was okay but not too stunning, then had a good match with Barret while he was still solid midcard and hadn't defeated Illidan yet. Dracula defeated Dan, but Dan's one of the weakest guys on the roster, so that hardly means anything. He doesn't get any bonus points for crushing Dan either, as Ezio vs. AVGN 2 shows that some days the ranking gap wants to make itself known, so no cred for beating Dan harder than Guile and Cage did.

Finally, AVGN does have the Power Ranking that could get him a title shot, but I personally feel that he's had a lot of opportunities already and that beating Ezio twice doesn't give enough of a push to go for the belts again.

I'm all for Phoenix getting a title shot, but if it's a one v one it makes it a lot harder to decide.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say one that is not likely in the slightest, but I am really behind:

BARNET. FRIGGIN. WALL. ACE. Give that man one or two more good singles matches that result in his victory, and I think he can finally get a shot at the main event. His win against Illidan really helps him, and who wouldn't love to see another midcard insurgence (not a bit nervous)?

If not that, I'm all for Wyvernil's logic of Guile getting the shot next.

I feel like putting Phoenix's potentially record setting match as a contender's match seems like a waste, especially since his last match was already a contender's match. Put him up against D.K. in the main event of the Royal Rumble night or something.

First Dan, now Nick. Dracula has it out for his former Drac Pack members.

In that case, you should have started with BADMAN or Kefka after beating Dan, Drac, because this one may be out of your league.

Will justice finally be brought on Dracula for his crimes in Season 4?
