#1 Contender Prediction Thread; Who will be the next opponent to go for the belt?

Since Dracula has confirmed that he won't be part of the next #1 Contender match, here's who I think will be:

Bowser vs. Guile vs. Goemon vs. Duke

After a grueling match, Duke Nukem just toppled the red-hot Heavy, who had been steadily rocketing his way into the top ten. I figure it's time to place your bets on Duke coming back to the title scene. Besides, what better man to take Guile down a peg than his former tag partner? Meanwhile, Goemon has scored a decisive victory over Snake, which should be enough to prove that he belongs in the title scene. Ganbare.

And now for something completely different: Co-Op Predictions! Safety Valve has secured their place in the contender's match by beating Toejam and Earl, but who will their opponents be? My thought is this:

Team Groose vs. either Mystical Ninjas or Gamecenter FU.

There's really no one left. Wario and Knux are still borged, so that rules out Warioware or S&K. The Dragons are injured. Red will be fighting Airman for the Casual Championship, so chances are PK Chu won't be pulling double duty. And the Practice looks like they have bigger plans than chasing the Co-Op belts. Finally, the DK Crew had the last title shot, so giving them an immediate chance for a rematch wouldn't make sense.

The Mystical Ninjas are a possibility, but losing to Toejam and Earl may scupper their chances. That's why we might end up seeing Arino and the Nerd return to the co-op scene.

And as for Groose's goons? Putting them into a tag match would neatly scupper the Grooster's plans to sabotage Red's casual match. I get the feeling he'll end up having to run in alone, turning Red vs. Air Man into a triple threat.

Well, looks like we're going to know the #1 Contender for Endgame next week. Who do you think it's going to be? My predictions are in my previous post, and remain unchanged at the moment.

(Edit: To avoid confusion, here they are again: )

Bowser vs. Guile vs. Duke Nukem vs. Goemon

However, there's now the added wrinkle of Dracula knowing who the Practice's primary target is. I could see him pulling a dick move and assisting the mad doctors in acquiring their target, in the hopes of sneaking into the contender's match. In that case, the primary target might be replaced by Dracula.

In the meantime... it's time for some predictions for Endgame's Casual contender's match. The playing field is still a bit narrow thanks to the Practice snatching up midcarders for their robot army, and it's even narrower if Red and Octodad are removed from the running. With that in mind, here's my candidates.

Dan vs. Ebisumaru vs. M. Bison vs. Adam Jensen

Dan's come back strong from his time as a robot, and his new finisher has greatly added to his pratitude. Beating Tingle might be enough to push him into Casual contention. However, it's still uncertain if a possible PRATs vs. Bullies match at Endgame leads to him getting overlooked. Then again, there aren't many other choices...

Ebisu is currently 1-1 in singles, having lost to Tingle, but then bouncing back with a win against Sonic. Even if he's a bit green as a solo contender, he's still a crowd favorite and might be ready for a title shot.

After beating Sagat, Bison's been slowly rising. He's beaten Sonic, but lost to Duke. Another potential opponent for Air Man right here.

The fourth slot is up in the air at the moment. The one other rising midcarder I can think of is Jensen, whose last singles match was a victory against Segata. However, he might need one more singles match to prove he's Casual material. Maybe a Ezio vs. Jensen match next week?

What do you think?

Adam I can see getting a shot. Bison I can as well, but he DID lose his last match. As well fought as it was, and against someone as strong as Duke. Maybe give him another match? Though I'd just like to see someone who isn't Octodad or Arino get a shot.

Dan and Ebi haven't done enough yet I think. I'm happy to see them get wins, but I don't know if one is enough.

Bison would be a good contender, Jensen was just in the Co-OP Contenders so I doubt he'll be in, Dan is probably wrapped up in the Bullies Feud, and Ebisu...well, sure, why not?

I get the appeal of throwing in comedy mid-carders with a mix of main eventers just to fill out a fatal-four way, but that is not what Scorpion or End Game need right now. His last opponent was Kefka, a lovable yet ultimately bumbling comedy jobber, and people are already starting to question the legitimacy of the opponent's he's faced in his "streak." I still love the guy and I think that's a little unfair, but he absolutely does need to go over someone solid next or drop the belt. Guys like Ebisu, Goemon, ad Bison would not fit that bill.

There's not many non-robot dudes who currently meet this criteria. I love multi-man matches, but the only two people who deserve a title shot who haven't already just had a chance are Guile and Bowser. In a cage match, since Jensen implied it'd be a more unique contenders match.

Didn't Guile already confirm he was in a contender's match?

I apologize! I shouldn't post when glazing through posts without my contacts in while I try to fall asleep. Those are good choices for a casual contendership, definitely.

Still, I think there should be no room for weak links in the contendership for the main belt. Aside from robots and elimination chamber contestants, who could match Bowser or Guile at this point? Cage is about the closest I could think of.

As far as :scorp: 's next opponent goes, the only guy who's practically a lock at this point is that motherfucker  . Over the last two seasons he's gotten a huge amount of momentum and practically decimated everyone in his path except for Duke, and sort of made up for that in his big End Game 7 win. Pile that on top of him being THE most hated heel on the entire roster and he's perfect for it.

Beyond Guile, however, there are 3 guys who I think are worth mentioning in regards to the #1 Contender's match.

:salt: : Illidian has been extremely protected since his debut in VGCW. Even in Season 8, where his prevalence show-to-show has diminished, his might is still well-known, as it has been tested by Scorpion in the past, it being his only clean singles loss. He managed to be in the Final 3 in the Chamber, and that was with being targeted by Dracula practically the entire match. I think Illidian deserves one more contendership chance with decidedly less opponents, given that it's quite likely that the next contendership match will be either singles or Triple Threat Elimination.

:gwar: : Bowser is ALWAYS worth mentioning in terms of top tier talent. It was established last season that Bowser is entirely able to compete for the title if he wishes, and also that Bowser is, in fact, mortal. He received his first clean non-gimmick singles loss last season, and since then he's yet to receive another singles loss at all. If the trend continues and the next Contendership match is singles, Bowser could finally get a legit shot at the title in his true dominant environment. Getting wouldn't be a cakewalk, either, given that Guile has proven he is almost as unstoppable nowadays.

:betonduke: : I'm not sure how many other people agree with this one, but Duke has been building more and more momentum this season after being initially cooled off by his loss at End Game 7. At this point, disregarding just the amount of wins he's gotten since then, his performance against Heavy a week ago speaks for itself. Odd that he and Guile have been building themselves up like this totally separate from one another since EG7.

As it stands, I think the best possible contender's matches would be:
 VS :gwar:
 VS :gwar: VS :betonduke: OR
 VS :betonduke: VS :salt:

I think Octodad should be considered for casual contender.

A rose, by any other name...
There is literally no way Goemon doesn't deserve a spot in the VGCW Contender's match. Since this season has started, he hasn't lost as a singles performer, and that includes wins over Little Mac, Snake, and a number of big names in the six-man dark match.

If people are considering Duke (which they should) after he got basically wrecked by Snake a few weeks back, then Goemon, who beat him twice in two weeks, should be a lock.

Johnny did lose against Guile at EC, but he did beat AVGN. Maybe we can get Scorpion vs Johnny Cage for EG8.

Bowser, Guile, Duke and Goemon are the immediate logical choices given match history. Illidan and Cage are also possible choices, but Illidan has had a recent shot.

I think the contender's match will be 1v1 and it will be Bowser v. Guile, they deserve it the most at the moment.

I'd kill for some canon, but I'm not sure Cage is ready to pit his Shadow Kick against the Hell Kick, no matter how badly I wish he were. Goemon, Guile, Bowser, and Douk are more than enough to determine a good contender.

Johnny Cage was pretty much squashed by the reigning Casual Champ. Sure, that same champ also looks a bit too strong to be competing in Casuals, but the point still stands. He needs more wins under his belt before he can really stake a claim at the main belt.

Perhaps we should cut out the middleman and have Airman vs Scorpion?
