I think the next title shot should be a triple threat, and I will begrudgingly acknowledge that Phoenix should be in it. Not really sure who the third guy would be - Guile's been strong the last few weeks, even being on the winning side of a match where Scorpion got pinned, and while I know he was the last person to get a title shot, Phoenix has had a ridiculous amount of chances himself. Immediate back to back title shots tend to be a lot more common than shots dispersed throughout the year in real-fake wrestling, anyway. Just look at Cena vs. Lesnar.

Maybe put him in another contender's match for the third spot with Duke. If not Guile, some other heel, because I don't think we've had a heel champion since I started watching and I frickin' love heel champions.

If we're going by standings, I think Phoenix vs. Ganon could work as a title shot. With Duke's last big win being the bragging rights Rumble, I'd like to see him net at least one more victory before getting into a contenders match.

If we're going by recent records and accomplishments, Nick's the only guy with a clear shot at the title right now. Ganon's always strong but has yet to do anything big this Season, and while Guile defeated Hulk Hogan he was the previous contender.

This is probably the best time to have a contenders match for the main title. Nick's got free time as the rest of the preliminaries wrap up, Duke has space since his tournament match will probably be last to see if Arino can recover in time, Guile hasn't gotten into another feud yet, and Ganon isn't doing anything.

I think that Nick should be in the next championship match no questions asked, if Dracula can get a shot for beating the Casual Champion, so can a man who squashed the VGCW Champion.

Order! Order in the court!
If Bison gets another impressive victory, I'd say add him in. He's shooting for the top, he's got that momentum.
Of course he's facing Dan soon, so it might be a while for an actual good match for him. I'd say keep him in mind though.

NOPE.
Phoenix is in. For all the talk about recency and title shots, he has the most convincing case anyone's had in a long time and that flatout can't be ignored.

After that, it gets dicey. Ganon's been brought up, but I'm struggling to see what case he has based on his recent performance. He beat Dracula in a LMS and...that's it, he beat Dracula. That one win alone sandwiched between middling tag success and his last title opportunity in the Chamber doesn't convince me.

Duke is a strong candidate, he's won his last 3 matches as well as the End Game rumble. Two of those wins are really strong as well, beating Haggar and Bison. A Phoenix/Duke match could have bonus stakes if he beats Arino's replacement in the tournament. It could be a defacto contendership match AND GM Tournament match in one. That would be a neat twist.

Speaking of Bison, he probably needs another win since the only match he's had since his last title opportunity was against Sabin. Granted he won, but he'll need at least one more match I think.

My personal sleeper pick is Vegeta. The guy's only been pinned twice from April to now, and as far as I'm aware he's the only person to have pinned both Ganondorf and Scorpion in the 2K14 era. Granted, using a victory he picked up back in June and a recent tag team result is an odd way to pick up contendership status, but weirder stuff has happened (like Dan getting a Casual title shot for losing to Groose, who was also in the match). I'd say give him a regular old singles match against a high card opponent, and if he wins, why not throw him in?

Guile did nothing wrong
While I don't like it, Phoenix without a doubt has a shot, although another GM holding the title would suck.

The main guys left to fill in the other spot(s) are probably Bison, Cage, Duke and Guile. Duke still has the Rumble win under his belt in addition to a lot of impressive wins against guys like Bison and They Heavy. Even though Guile just challenged for it, it was incredibly close and he's had one of the best post-title loss comebacks ever, beating Hulk fucking Hogan and being the main factor behind his team winning the 6 man tag match. Bison and Cage have both looked great lately, but might need one more match before getting into title contention. If not them, you could throw in some mastodons like DK and Ganon.

While I especially don't like it, Nappa has an argument for title contention if he wins 1 or 2 singles matches, but that really shouldn't happen.

Nappa in an absolute beast and totally deserves a shot in a #1 contenders match. He's had 21 matches in 2k14 and only 4 losses. I know he's mostly had tag matches, but he's definitely the stronger half of the Saiyans and has been the main driving force behind those 17 wins.

I've seen plenty of The Saiyans tag matches where Vegeta has kept up with Nappa easily. There never seems to be a "clear" stronger one. Nappa hasn't been shown off in singles for a long time, but he has the chance now he's dropped the title to show us what he can do.

Maybe if HE can get a pin on Ganondorf or Scorpion, he'd be somewhere near the league of the :badman: ...

Now that the Saiyans have dropped the co-op belts, I could see Nappa being given a chance in singles, since he's got a pretty good record going. Maybe not this time, but he could get plugged into the contender's match after that if he gets some singles matches against credible opponents and wins.

Maybe set up Nappa to fight DK, Haggar, Heavy, or Illidan. Any of these five could use the push.

As for Vegeta, personally I think he could do well in casuals. Besides, if he won the casual belt, he'd be the first competitor to get a triple crown; having held the Main, Casual, and Co-Op belts at some point in his career.

Okay, the contender's match is within a week, and we have a pretty good idea of who two of the competitors will be. Here's my last prediction.

Phoenix vs. Vegeta vs. Duke vs. Ganon

Since Cage's GM tournament match is next week, it's doubtful he'll get in. Therefore, Vegeta can be plugged into his spot in my earlier predictions pretty easily. Personally, I'd have chosen Nappa, since he's got the better record, but Vegeta works as well.

Sometimes a dark horse challenger can surprise everyone. Just look at Protoman and his performance during that fateful Elimination Chamber match, where he came out on top against monsters like Phoenix and Gabe.

Ganon seems to be dedicated to tagging right now. I'd say given his performance tonight, you could easily put Snake in his place, and then that match is perfect.

Scorp got his title shot for beating Illidan, so should Snake.

I dunno, 9-8 is a hell of a classic match, but Snake has won very few matches lately...

...granted, the last time he DID win, he beat fucking Duke of all people.

Also, it's kind of funny to see people clamouring for Snake to get a title shot now. I didn't see QUITE that reaction the LAST TIME he was given a shot, hmmm?

...Hang on, isn't Vegeta fighting Cage next week though? (Unless he pulls double duty, which would be okay)
