Layton might have made one hell of an entrance, but Phoenix is still an absolute monster. Give the professor a few more matches before he has any type of fight with Wright.

Why would Layton need a contender's match anyway? He doesn't need to be anywhere near a belt to keep his momentum going upward for a while.

X: Doubt
I'd prefer we test newcomers in a few matches before we throw them in the title scene, for what it's worth. Dante, for instance, definitely has the pedigree for potentially getting in the next one, but we don't have enough info for Travis, I think.

Put Travis against Goemon. I have a feeling they'd put up a 4-star match, minimum.

Cage and Bison are really some of the most interesting guys around right now. If anyone's a true wildcard, it's these two. They can realistically beat just about anyone in the league at this point, even the toppest of the top carders, but at the same time them losing is just as likely and it's almost impossible for either one to get a good streak going. Bison's only real potential problem is that he's handicapped hard when outside the ring, but he still managed to overcome that and beat Phoenix, of all people.

While they may or may not get into a Contenders match anytime soon based solely off of winning strings of matches, I don't think anyone would object to them being inserted anyways as a multi-mans wildcard. It doesn't matter who the Champion would be at this point, because there would pretty much always be a 50/50 chance of them winning and it would create a ton of drama.

AND Metal Wario, the only robot master ever defeated by a non-robot cleanly. He beat him in an Extreme Rules match as well.

Someone told Bison that he was weak outside the ring and he's dedicated himself to proving them wrong.

NOPE.
If Scorpion reaches 15 defenses, have him face John Cena for the title.

And if John Cena wins end VGCW because it would be the show's magnum opus.

Cena is totally vidya. And I would laugh my ass off if we actually got VGCW champion John Cena. Bonus points for an actual CENAWINSLOL victory.

Does nobody think DK's stacked enough wins to get a title shot?

I'd love to see DK/Bison/Barret triple threat match. EXTREME RULES of course. :bahgawd:

DK is definitely in line for a shot. Losing to Nappa is no shame.
I think Barret is all but confirmed at this point, but there should be a couple more matches before the contendership match. Haggar/Bison would be fantastic and the winner would definitely had made a statement. Johnny Cage/Dante is probably a match that's being saved for later in the new generation but it would actually be perfect right now.
I think if we're going to get a Singles match, Barret v. DK would probably be the best option. I personally think a 4 way between Barret/DK/The winner of Bison/Haggar/The winner of Cage/Dante would be the best course of action.

Order! Order in the court!
I want to see Cage vs Illidan than Cage vs Dante, I want the rivalry reignited.

Make it that Cage asks for a push from Gary, but Oak reminds him who owned his ass all this time, ever since the first Star Road. His client. Gotta beat him first if you want a chance at the title, otherwise :smellyalater:

Or that Gary gets annoyed with Cage, "I'll give you a match, alright. Tonight. If you win, you enter the Contenders."

Still not convinced DK is ready
His stacked wins were off midcarders, he was booked in a match against established topcarder Nappa and lost. A loss to Nappa may be 'no shame' because he's incredibly strong but it still doesn't mean 'hush hush about that, he can still go for the belt.' DK needs to win against someone higher on the card (something he's perfectly capable of doing) to truly prove his case as a contender. I'm sure if you booked anyone on DK's level against a string of midcarders they'd look just as strong and have just as many stacked wins, you shouldn't get a shot at the top prize in VGCW by beating people that were on no ones radar

Goemon and Ness are above the midcard when I think of 'solid midcarders', albeit both are more untested than anything as we still don't have a good read on them. If Illidan and Snake are about equal, Barret beating Snake is about as good as DK beating Goemon (considering Goemon beat Snake... like, twice or something, 6-mans can get weird sometimes).

If we're going purely by 'wins on strong opponents', the frontrunners are probably Dante, Ebisumaru, Johnny Cage, and the Oakmeister himself, due to wins over Mac, Bowser, Bowser, and Duke. But all four of them feel like 'rising stars', either new or Gary's new lease on life. I feel like it's just smarter booking to have DK or Phoenix or The Bowz in that kind of match, so that all the new stars' pushes don't end up overwhelming each other and they can at least say 'well they definitely put up a fight against DK/Bowser/Phoenix'.
