Goemon is a vanilla midget and he doesn't have the look of a champion. He is Japanese and therefore can't connect to the crowd. He should not be champion. /Vince

I think in his case he just needs to win the matches, and we shall see what follows.

GANBARE? THAT WON'T SELL OVER IN THE STATES, SON. HIS NEW CATCHPHRASE IS "COWABUNGA, DUDE!". I WANT HIM TO SAY THAT EVERY FEW MINUTES. AND EBISU IS OUT. THAT WON'T SELL OVER IN THE STATES. HE'S BEEN REPLACED BY A TALKING WISECRACKING MONKEY.

ALSO HE'S NOT A NINJA. THAT WON'T SELL OVER IN THE STATES. HE'S A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FROM KANSAS. FIGHTING THE ESTABLISHMENT, THAT'S POPULAR NOWADAYS, RIGHT? HE WEARS A BASEBALL CAP WITH $9.99 WRITTEN ON IT. AND HE'S ALWAYS EATING HIS HAMBURGERS, APOLLO.

Wait, so if we're in agreement that Goemon could potentially be main belt material, and that Ebisu could potentially be main belt material, THEN WHO'S DRIVING THE GANBARE BUS?

Also they might fight each other at some point and I admittedly want that a whole lot. I love when tag teams implode for a singles match.

Knuckles? I think that was it.
And no one is calling for Knuckles to hit the main belt.

Because he used Move Theft and stole Segata's Custom.

If Goemon used his own finisher, there's no small chance that he would STILL be Casual Champion right now.

Woah hang on there. Time out. Time out. Whole lot of ifs and buts being thrown around here. Ifs and buts don't make candy and nuts. Something like that. Ifs and buts oh shit it's Airman.

I see Goemon in a similar mold to Vegeta where their performances suggest they're solid upper midcarders, but not necessarily with a recent body of singles work to show for it. Neither of them have had that many singles against guys right at their level or lower to get some momentum and real good gauge where they are at the moment. Vegeta has a highly successful tag team while Goemon has found a niche as a triple threat specialist. Both are probably slightly above the casual level, but need a big boost to really get on-board with the topcarders.

Goemon did lose to Segata with a custom but that was quite a while ago, and he beat Snake more recently, but Snake's so hot and cold what does that even prove long term? Vegeta's lost to Sonic in 2K14 but beat Johnny Cage and then got his ass handed to him by Groose.

What I'm trying to say is these two are probably just about upper midcard level based on the limited and slightly topsy turvy results.

Well then, Goemon vs. Vegeta seems like a good match then now don't it.

I'd push my Goemon v Travis idea into a Goemon/Vegeta/Travis Triple Threat but Goemon is too good at those.

Goemon also lost to Mr. Satan, and I don't think he even stole the Megaton Punch then. Safe to say he got better.

That 6 man dark match he won is more than enough proof that Goemon is Ganbaready, brother.
That match also featured Ness, Gabe Newell, Air Man, Mike Haggar and Snake. Goemon eliminated Haggar, Gabe, and Snake. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that that is a field of Upper Midcarders to Main Eventers. He also won ANOTHER 6 man to get his casual shot. The field wasn't as impressive, but still, M. Bison, DK, Guile, Zangief, and Barret are definitely not slouches.

I know multiman matches are hard to gauge and don't mean as much, but those two wins prove to me Goemon is capable of a lot. Goemon needs to be booked more in straight up singles matches. In the past year (meaning I'm leaving out Segata and Wario even though they were in the 2K14 era), He's been in a grand total of two no-gimmick singles matches (no managers and no stipulations) with a win against Snake and a loss against Phoenix.

There's actually a typo on the wiki (which I'm gonna fix) that has his Singles record worse than it actually is. A tag team match loss is not a singles match loss. Poor Goemon.

What on Duke's silver balls was DK doing in a casual contender's match.

Like. Ever.
I know Free the Rap was a hard era for the Kong but goddamn.

The really weird thing is, it was before the rap era. His winning streak had ended like a month earlier against Duke (light-switcher-offer doesn't count to me), and then he lost to Sonic. 2K14 growing pains, but still, he was in a casual contenders match, where he should not have been.
Keep in mind, DK had beaten AIR MAN by KNOCK OUT (yes, knock out. And with no glitch bomb, which blows my mind.) at End Game 5, literally like 2 weeks before his first loss in like 7 months.
The thing about the Cancer era, is that DK honestly wasn't that bad during it. He lost to Duke in the second week of the 2K14 era, and then Sonic about 3 weeks later. We know that Duke is now really good, and Sonic was probably a fluke win. Even in that 6 man that Goemon won he was the last man standing and eliminated like half the field.
If he had won that match, DK would've never let go of that title. Like, never. I can't see any midcarder beating him. The DK Crew would've also never existed, sparing of us of many boring Co-Op matches. Goemon is truly the hero we don't deserve, at least in singles.
