Predicting that Red will fall into the bottom 5.

Profound Sadness.

Friendly reminder that the dark match was "canon I guess" per Bazza's words.

I really hope I didn't blow the Desperate Struggle too soon with Travis around.

Looking through past power rankings it seems like Phoenix Wright, Scorpion, Duke, and surprisingly Waluigi have benefited the most from the jump to 2K14. I need to see more matches but I think Snake has quietly climbing the charts and poised to break through to me a major contender again.

It really says something about Haggar's drop that he fell below the newest member of the VGCW (even with the slight boost from being an old face returning)

So, how exactly did Red fall into the bottom five of the Power Rankings? What was the route his record took to get there?

It just seems so odd that Red of all people is down there. I mean, I know he encountered some difficulty when trying to break into the highest of the high card, but for him to fall so low? Was it losing to Octodad that did it or something? Even then it seems almost unreal.

I'm just going to take a random guess and say it's Luigi, Barkley, and Pyro getting Future Endeavor'd. They were all quite low and some people went down and some people went up in the process. In the case of Red, he just went down in the rankings to where he is now thanks to his most recent Singles loss.

Just a guess.

There's no real way to sugarcoat it: Red's been on tilt for a long, long time, and people have been blind to it due to the lingering perception of him being a winner his championship run and match against Scorpion have made stick to him. Thing is, though, he really isn't, or at least not anymore, or not right now at the very least. Post-Championship Red has done quite poorly; since he dropped the belt, he's lost five singles matches and only won one, and he's 1 and 2 in four-man matches, which wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't the big loser in both of those losses, having been the first one to be eliminated in both. For a variety of reasons, though, every individual loss sort of came and went without being integrated into a wider narrative by people in general. It's those sorts of stories the rankings serve to highlight in the first place.

As always, it behooves us to remember that the rankings aren't meant to be an objective overview of a wrestler's career taken in aggregate, but rather a reflection of a wrestler's recent performance. A long string of losses will tank your record, even if you started from a lofty position. No, Red is not "really" in the bottom 5 of wrestlers, his record-setting Casual championship run certainly offsets his recent spate of misfortune when looking at it from a holistic perspective, but the rankings were built to be biased towards recent results.

The silver lining in this, is that fact he still could make a comeback in some way or another. People we never thought would reach the top of the ranks are sitting there as we speak.

As long as he remains employed, he will always still have a chance.

The thing about Red though is that all his misfortune came at a precipitous time.

His big fight against Scorpion was at End Game 5, and has the notable quality of being the last WWE2013 match Red fought.

Unfortunately, that means that his 2k14 matches may be indicative of something much more worrying - Red may not be as strong a fighter as he was in the previous game. In fact, among all the wrestlers on the roster, he may have taken the biggest and most critical hit to his talent out of all the wrestlers in the league due to the switchover. I seem to recall someone mentioning that a lot of his moves were no longer as effective due to changes in the AI, particularly being susceptible to Bonk and Whiffs.

Yeah, his losses may have started in '13, but those were against three of the toughest top-carders in the league. DK was in the middle of his streak, Ganon was going strong again, and Airman had yet to be entangled in Triple Threat matches. Much like Guile might have gotten a boost we haven't fully seen yet, Red might have gotten a nerf. He sure seemed to be his old self in that multi-man match in January though.

Red seemed that way because he was fighting tired opponents.
