Alright, here's my thoughts on tonight's results.

CONGRATULATIONS SEGATA! You're no longer third place, thanks to Eggman! This wasn't a huge upset, but it was a great opening match despite it. Waluigi and Eggman looked to be on even grounds, so it was really a matter of either Eggman climbing back up with his Master Plan, or Waluigi re-establishing himself as a solid Midcard Master. And too bad for the master plan, because it was Waluigi Time.

With how strong the robots have been lately, it almost feels like M. Bison should be getting more points for his defeat of Wariobot, but that's not for the VGCW Power Rankings to decide. What's important is he DID win, and is now just shy of cracking the infamous Rank 20 where serious contenders rise towards (...Don't mention Ezio). Wario meanwhile will have to put in some heavy work to earn his spot as a solid Midcarder back.

The Triple-threat was a real show-stopper, and showed us why Ness is known for such NICE matches, pushing him all the way up past the coveted +1200 club to spot 12. Snake, by not being the man to lose or win, remains in a solid middle spot at 25. But man oh man, Johnny Cage must be utterly embarrassed after having to tap out to Snake. He falls to rank 20, right inside that coveted Serious Contender spot that Bison is probably looking at eagerly right now.

Barret did AVALANCE proud tonight by defeating the former-casual champ. Though Falcon isn't in the powerhouse position he may have once held, the win is still a win that rockets him closer and closer to Upper Card territory. And with a hot Casual Champ on the board, a Casual Shot might be in Barret's future.

Toejam is a Weiner.

Protoman's Victory over Arinobot was SO amazing, the Power Chart glitched and he actually went down two ranks! Or maybe it was a No Contest.

Jimmy and Billy Lee still aren't singles contenders.

Now here's the match that had a lot of seasoning of the salty variety. Nearly everyone wanted to see Bowser win and go toe-to-toe with Scorpion at End Game 8, but the cards didn't pan out that well, and instead we got Guile, who's victory has launched him up and above the burning hot Air Man. A win for Guile against Scorpion at End Game would make him an incredibly powerful Champion, but Scorpion may have a few things to say about that.

And as a side-note, I find it rather interesting that both the men who have had a very strong history with Red are now poised to fight each other for the Main Belt. Just saying...

Where's Billy?
I don't know if he's going to show up in any singles matches from now on. I don't generally work out numbers for guys who only ever have one match (see: Phoenix Wright (damaged)) but if he shows up again then I already ran his match. I just didn't include it in the table.

Now if Billy AND Jimmy start having matches on their own, there may be something to say about them sharing a spot. Or not, I dunno.
Has there been any confirmation as to whether the Dragons' singles matches were just a one-time thing, or if they'll become regular? I can understand not adding them to the rankings if their singles matches were simply one-time events.

Also, I don't think Gary's had a solo match since he teamed up with Illidan, yet he's still included in the power rankings. If Gary's been moved to a full-time manager spot, should he be retired from the power rankings until he gets another singles match?

I know as much as you guys about the Dragons. If it turns out that they're going to be regular competitors, I've already made sure that it won't be too difficult to factor in their matches into the table, for them and their opponents. If either of them pop up again on their own I'll slide them in first thing.

I haven't taken Gary off because I really don't want to let go. It's probably time, though, so I'll move him after tomorrow's show. I can always put him back in if he comes back I guess...

Here lie Dan and Goemon's hopes and dreams.

Also Gary has been placed in the inactive table. Needless to say, he's last there too.

I can confirm that he has not, at least as far back as I've the archives for. I don't have every single table that Kubo did, so he might've gotten close after winning Casual Contendership once.

Probably not, though.

I know Barret has had a good season...but damn, he's in the top 10 despite having more losses than wins overall. If there ever was a good time for him to go for the title, this is it.

And not just in the top ten, Barret's at #7 with over 1300 Points!

I'd also like to point out that him and Phoenix rising up has done something very...interesting to the charts.

That's right. Ganondorf has fallen out of the top 10 ranking, and is sitting right on top of Dracula, the man who he's facing at End Game 8.

And sitting right above THEM is Bowser, who isn't poised to be in any fight next week.

And right above him is our own personal GM, whose very life is on the line next week.

This season, Barret has been undefeated in solo matches. The only loss he incurred was when joined Gray Fox against a couple robot masters. Otherwise, it's four wins. That oughtta get almost anyone into the top 10 through the course of a season.

Just because I was curious, Kefka is 2-6 this season. Yikes.

Kefka's had to fight Scorpion, Illidan (twice), and Guile among those losses. I don't think I can really hold it against him, his record makes him look a lot weaker than what he has the potential for, he really went all out against Guile.

Eh, the rankings are just mostly to measure recent trends, there's no better way to explain it. It's not terribly surprising for Ganondorf to be where he is, he's only had Ezio and DK to build his rating back up after all the multi-man matches he hasn't been able to bulldoze like we thought he would.

Please do not mistake the power rankings as any sort of actual assessment of a character's ability in the ring or anything but a fun investment of time to look at once in a while. I like Barret, but I really would like to actually see him in more matches that he's capable of winning instead of throwing him in the lion's den like what happened to Goemon, who's only had about 3 singles matches this year to show off his 1v1 capability before trying to raise the bar against Phoenix.

I guess I can at least look forward to the abject shock expressed by the crowd when Goemon pulls off the big win he's been due for a while, but people might somehow get the mistaken impression Goemon's not ready by having lost to Phoenix (you know, like how that jobber Dracula did). Much in the same way people thought Segata was still in a losing slump and doing terribly after losing to fucking Illidan. It would be pretty tragic to see the same happen to Barret if he has to fight someone like Dracula... again.

That is, assuming you're talking about Barret going after the main title Scorpion now holds. If you mean the casual title then sure I'm interested in seeing how that plays out. Barret's long overdue for something good to happen for him, and I think he's worked off the karmic debt of beating Illidan by now. This is his Big Shot in the league but I can't help but be a bit nervous.

Well yeah, I did mean casual shot. He seems stronger this season than ever, which isn't that difficult, I know.
