Seeing as how I was a bit late to the console party back in the early 90s, most of my fun was had with DOS games. I started out with Math Rescue and Word Rescue (both educational, but platformers---fun stuff) and eventually worked my way up to Duke Nukem (obviously) and Duke Nukem II, as well as the PHENOMENAL (and tragically underrated) Commander Keen series. Other highlights: DooM and DooM II, Wolfenstein 3D, Halloween Harry (later renamed to Alien Carnage), Jazz Jackrabbit, Tyrian and a metric ton of others that I could list here....yeah, DOS gaming was awesome. Anyone else have fond memories of those days? |

Hell yeah DOS gaming! I have fond memories of having to navigate directories using cd.., having to make sure no file or folder names were above 8 letters long and all that jazz. Of course, if I had to deal with but one minute of that nonsense today I'd just give up, but back then, there was something appealing about the frontier-like necessity of using this bare-bones interface to play your games. I mean, you had to, because Windows couldn't handle most of the games and crashed all the time, so. I played all of the classics, such as Duke Nukem 3D, Warcraft II, Doom and the like, but one of my best memories was giving thirty bucks to this guy who knew a guy who had this mythical piece of technology called a 'burner' who would make you a CD loaded with games for the fee. The disc had all of the usual suspects, but it also had this thing called HoMM.exe that I didn't touch for a good few months until I got bored one day. Then I launched it and it became one of my favorite series. |

Ah, the days of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS, trying to get my computer to have enough EMS memory to play games like Wing Commander. I also loved the Cosmic Forge trilogy for Wizardry (6 through 8). That was around the same time I played Ultima 6 and 7, Civilization 1 and 2. Man, I'm old. |

DOS games ! I grew up on these games, while most kids my age were playing Pokemon Red/Blue, Final Fantasy 7 or Ocarina of Time. I used to go to this purple website, full of "abandonwares" (dog-something? I don't remember) whenever I was allowed to go on the Internet. DOS games I remember the most were Duke 3D (which is still my favorite FPS), Civilization 2, Jagged Alliance, Monkey Island, 4D sports driving, the Might and Magic series, Road Rash and just about any breakout games I could find on the aforementioned website. Oh, and of course UFO : Enemy Unknown. or X-COM : UFO Defense for most of you. How could I forget my #1 favorite game? ^^' Edited by Blauze, Feb 9 2014, 09:00 PM.

I remember I used to download many DOS games, mainly demos of first person shooters with some sidescrollers and shooters like Commander Keen and Tyrian. |
