I voted for Transistor, but even I silently knew that Castle Crashers and Magicka were perhaps the better vote anyway. Especially since the game's not been out long, so any discount at this point is minimal, as opposed to 90% and 75%, respectively.

More sizzle than a rasher of bacon.
It also helps when the combined price of all four of those games is still less than what Transistor would have been if it won.

Remember last year when we were excited for this?
Yeah, but it's things that have been on sale every time. Sure, the discounts on newer things aren't as big, but they're games people haven't already bought and played.

Oh well. If history holds the games that didn't win the votes will usually go on sale at some point anyway, we're only halfway done.

I've just been waiting for Ys Origins (get Oath of Felghana if it goes on sale, great game). Watch it come up in a community vote and lose.

There's no need to empty your own pockets to buy games during this sale. Instead of pulling out the credit card, I've been dedicating a lot of time to the steam card market in pursuit of free games. Without spending any of my own money, I'm putting cash in my steam wallet by selling steam cards on the community market. Thanks to the steam sale, many games are low enough in cost to purchase using this method.

The summer sale has introduced summer adventure cards, which are worth an average of 25 cents each on the steam market. By crafting 1 badge, you earn 1 summer card immediately. You also earn points toward your color team, which gets you another card once the winning team is decided (2 if your team wins). Voting on games will also get you cards every once in a while. You have to be at least Steam level 8 though. Join one of the colored teams and give it a shot!

The real cash is from idling the games you own for card drops. The average steam card sells on the market for around 10 cents. If you take the time to go through your library of games and log on them long enough to earn all of the card drops, you'll fill your inventory with valuables. You can find out which of the games you own are eligible for card drops and how many cards each game is capable of yielding by looking at the badges screen. Most games will yield around 4 cards, so on average, each eligible game you own will net you close to 50 cents.

If you invest time into this, you can pool your pennies over the course of a few days and buy yourself a game with money you just pulled out of thin air. You'll need a good amount of eligible games on your account to make this worthwhile.

There are a lot of little details to this I may have neglected to include, but the main point here is to liquidate your inventory of steam cards and buy games with the earnings.

These are all my market sales over the past couple days. This doesn't even cover them all!

I just managed to buy a $5 dollar game, and I'm not even done yet.

Gotta love Lego the Movie being in a community vote when it's already a daily deal.

Hell, if it wins it'd be one cent more expensive than the daily deal.

If there was a time the Lego Movie Video Game was not on a deal, I do not remember it.

Civilization V finally dropped. It was on sale a couple weeks ago and I went for it, really enjoying it. Easy to learn, easy to lose a ton of hours to it and leave you wondering where they went. The Complete version is the one to get, it includes all expansions and DLCs which really improved the game mechanics, from what I hear from veteran Civ players, so give it a look.

Assassin's Creed is back up there as well, note that most of the series is 75% off. The first two Batman Arkham games are also down to $5 each, GOTY editions too.

Not strictly summer sale related, but Super Triple H Simulator 2014 Shovel Knight just released.

Check it out if you like platformers.

Well, only thing this steam sale did for me is make me hate steam sales somehow

It's the last 24 hours, all timed deals are done. These prices are the lowest they'll be for the rest of the sale, so if there's anything you still want, now's the time!

Okay, the Winter Sale isn't here yet, but I thought I'd mention a little...oversight Valve put in with this Gem thing. You can use them to bid on games, yeah, but you can also use them to make booster packs. This sounds perfectly normal, until you look at the current price for 1000 Gems: http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/753-Sack%20of%20Gems. Since you can turn Community Items into gems I'm assuming this is them not realizing how many people have inventories filled with TF2 Crates and stuff like that.

So yeah, pretty much any booster pack will recoup the cost of that and more. I wouldn't be surprised if they nixed that soon, so abuse it while you can if you want to.
