ARE YOU REALLY FEELING IT, BROTHER?!
|
So, I just tried the Bravely Default demo and I immediately fell in love with it. I'd been looking forward to the game for some time now for the amazing soundtrack alone, done by Revo (of Sound Horizon, and more recently Shingeki no Kyojin, fame.) I've gone and preordered the Collector's Edition. For the unfamillar, what is Bravely Default? It's an RPG from Square Enix that's getting a stateside release coming next month. It's described as a spiritual successor to Four Heroes of Light, but they take a few more interesting innovations, namely in utilizing the 3DS' online capabilities. The game plays mostly like a classic RPG, complete with a job system which features jobs anyone familiar with FF will pick up on quick. If you've played Final Fantasy 3 or 5, you know what you're getting into here. The game does make use of the 3DS' online capabilities for a friend system and streetpass features. You can trade job abilities and buffs with your friends, and even summon your friends' characters to help you out in battle. There's also a minigame of rebuilding the main character's hometown, which gets destroyed at the start of the game. As you rebuild, you gain access to its shops and facilities. Encountering people with streetpass and friending people adds them to your 'reconstruction committee', which helps the process go faster. But that's enough sounding like viral advertisement. There's a demo up on the Nintendo Store right now, and playing it can earn you some stuff in the release, so even if you're sold on the game, I recommend giving it a shot. It spoils literally none of the game's plot. This thread is for discussing the game, exchanging friend info and planning for multiplayer aspects once the full release is out. Also, did I mention the amazing soundtrack? |

Remember last year when we were excited for this?
|
I am all aboard for this. I played through the demo last weekend, and loved the crap out of it. The combat takes a bit getting used to, but it's a great take on the traditional turn based RPG, and the first game in a while that actually makes good use of the defend command, or at least in this case, the Default command. One helpful tip for anyone who is starting the demo, or planning to soon. It is possible to get infinite builders from a person in town with one little trick. Up the stairs and to the left of the weapon/armor shop in the town is a man who tells you about the process if rebuilding your home village. If you talk to him after completing the first boss battle, he will give you a second builder, which will double the speed of your construction. Now, DO NOT SAVE, and go to the adventurer in Red (to the right of the inn, this is the guy who sells stuff from your home village shops). Select to return to the main menu without saving. When you reload the game, you will have the extra builder, AND the guy by the armor shop will offer you another one. Keep going until you get at least 20, because you can import up to 20 builders into the full version of the game. I realized I hadn't put my preorder in yet, and heard Amazon didn't have any more, so I checked Best Buy's website, and I think the system or something is glitched, because I got the collector's edition at the regular price... I hope the right one shows up. The in store pickups around me are already taken. Edit: Never mind, it's their Game Club Unlocked thing giving me 20% off. Panic averted. Anyway, my FC is 1580-4794-4628, and I'll be adding anyone who posts to this. Edited by WhytePanther, Jan 10 2014, 09:37 PM.

I've been hearing nothing but good things about this game so far and I've wanted a more classic FF style RPG for a while now so I might give it a shot. |

I just finished getting all the play bonuses today after starting a couple days ago, I'm in love with this game. The combos between jobs are fun and the brave/default system is interesting so i'm looking forward to the full version. As for the supposed censorship I don't really care or mind. |

The funny thing about the censored outfits is IMO they actually look better now than when they were uncensored. |

I agree. I'm sick of skimpy armor for the sake of skimpy armor. It's unpractical. And besides, if you have to look to these big headed anime characters for sex appeal, then I have something to show you. It's called the INTERNET. |

I'm inclined to agree about the censorship. It's not overly drastic, making some of the outfits more tasteful and changing the characters' ages to be less jailbait. Also I just got all the demo stuff done. Thanks for the trick, WhytePanther. I didn't know that. Friend Code is 3196-4718-0454 |

So now that the game has been out for a while, what broken class combos have you guys found? My personal favorite is Swordmaster's Free Lunch combined with Pirate's Amped Strike. Normally Amped Strike costs half your MP for 4 times the attack damage, but with Free Lunch, every Amped Strike for the next 2 turns are completely free! Brave that shit up, and watch the 9999s go flying. |

Also thinking of replacing Edea's Black Mage secondary job with something else but not sure what. Also it goes without saying but please do not post spoilers in this thread. |

I'm in chapter 2 as well, I might be overleveled i'm not sure but I have a friend who has like lv 80 characters and beat the game so his abilink to my Edea makes her have all the ridiculous stuff each new job I get, it's kind of funny. |
